He gives us light!
“I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.” John 8:12
As I headed for the barn, late feeding the pony, I got a glimpse of the setting sun. I thought of my granddaughter. If she were here with me she would shout out toward the western hill just as the last hue of red fades into the darkness, “Good night God!” And she would mean it, with all her precious little five year old heart. It’s been a tradition with her and I since the day she was old enough to understand; saying goodnight to God when we see His beautiful sunset…a reminder of His glory as He’s turning off the light of day.
I rounded the driveway, still headed for the barn, when there in the sky as bright as a porch light on the gate of heaven, was the moon brilliantly entering the eastern sky, while the sun winked goodbye. Like a nightlight hanging above the barn, switched on by God for me and all His children, to chase away the darkness and remind us that He is watching over us by night.
An uncontrollable smile spread across my face, the pony whinnied, and my heart beat as a five year old. I was feeling like a child whose daddy tucked her in and left the door open a crack – just enough to let a tiny ray of hope light the room with reassurance that she is safe in His care.
With feeding done I walk back to the house, my path lit by moon beams growing brighter as the sphere climbs higher in the night sky, its face shining full. My footsteps touching visible pavement as I am reminded… He is the light of the world. Whoever follows Him will not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.
He lights the darkness…oh how He loves us!
Are you walking in His light today?
