The Joy of the Lord is My Strength
“He said to them, “Go and eat delicacies and drink sweet drinks and send portions to those for whom nothing is prepared. For this day is holy to our Lord, Do not grieve, for the joy of the LORD is your strength.” Nehemiah 8:10 TNB
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self control. Galatians 5:22, 23 TNB
The Joy of the Lord is our strength in good times and in bad times. Happiness depends on the circumstance we are facing at the moment, but no matter what we can still have the JOY OF THE LORD. JOY is something we must choose to have each moment of every day no matter what.
Even when we are in gut-wrenching circumstances nothing or no one can take our Joy, because we choose to let the Lord control our joy. Not the happenings in our daily life.
Last week my baby brother went home to be with the Lord very unexpectedly. We had just the week before found that he had stage four cancer in both lungs and literally all over his body. My heart was crushed, and bruised, but I kept saying, “Lord I choose to have Spiritual Joy over this situation because; he did not have to endure chemo or radiation. Early on the morning before Thanksgiving Day he just went to sleep and woke up in heaven, Praise the Lord!!
Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit and even though we may feel that we will never be happy again, we can still claim our Joy. Just knowing that we have chosen Jesus Christ to be our Savior is reason enough to have all encompassing Joy.
Remember dear reader that happiness is just a momentary thing. We are happy because we have a new car or we got a raise at work. But happiness is so fleeting and circumstantial. BUT REMEMBER THE JOY OF THE LORD IS MY STRENGTH FOR ANYTHING AND EVERYTHING.
I hope you remember that Jesus is the Reason for the Christmas Season.
