Finding the perfect gift
Are you in a search for the perfect Christmas gift for someone you love? As Christmas approaches we long to find something they will enjoy and show them we care. Our society puts so much emphasis on buying gifts and finding just the right thing.
I’d like for you to think for a moment about gift giving. Is it really that important? Do you even remember what you were given for Christmas five years ago?
Now I realize there are those certain gifts that always hold a special place in our hearts because of the specialness of the gift and the giver. We can probably all name a few of those special gifts we have received through the years. One of my special gifts is the hope chest made by my Peepaw. He gave it to me Christmas 1992. He was unsure if he’d be able to complete it because of some serious health problems he had experienced. But he did finish in time for Christmas, and I have a picture of me giving him a hug as he surprised me with it. This is a gift I will always treasure.
For the most part do most gifts we give or receive hold this much significance? Or are they just nice gestures that are quickly broken or forgotten in the back of a closet?
Many of you are probably familiar with the verse John 3:16–
“For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
We have all been given the most perfect gift of all. I wonder this Christmas do we remember this wonderful gift, and do we make it a point share this gift with others? The gift of our Savior’s love is one that is forever. It won’t break or wear out like some gifts, and it is more special than any earthly treasure.
In this season of gift giving, make sure you share the wonderful gift of the love of Jesus. We may not be able to find the perfect gift that our loved one will cherish forever; however, by sharing the gift of Jesus with them, we have given the truly perfect gift!
