That’s Just Me…
That’s just me!
I’ve said these words often over the years. It usually comes out at times when there is an expectation of change or a desire to get me to act in a new way. If I’m not comfortable with it then I make it known, that’s just me; my personality, my nature, in other words don’t expect me to act any differently because you’re going to be disappointed. This is who I am, who I’ve always been.
However, I’ve come to realize, the words are sometimes used as a defense mechanism, a way to justify allowing fear to win without saying, “I’m afraid.”
I firmly believe that the positive things that makes you uniquely you, should not be put on the chopping block of change to be fixed or made over to look like everyone else. But some things that you may have clung to as “just me” may be keeping you from the many blessings that God has for you.
I’m reminded of the saying, if you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done. Change is not always a negative thing, especially when we allow God to do the changing.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” 2 Corinthians 5:17
When I accepted Christ over twenty years ago, I chose the above verse as one of my life verses. I was excited about changing my old way of thinking to become a new creation. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way some I became a bit wary of change. However, when we decide to step out of our comfort zone labeled, that’s just me, we may actually find that we have been limiting ourselves and discover a whole new world that God has waiting for us to experience hidden under the label, try something new.
19 For I am about to do something new.
See, I have already begun! Do you not see it?
I will make a pathway through the wilderness.
I will create rivers in the dry wasteland. Isaiah 43:19 (NLT)
Father, help us not to be so quick to limit ourselves to our old ways of thinking and doing. Give us the wisdom to know when you are showing us areas in which you what us to change in order to experience the “new” that you have waiting for us.

That is so true, Bernadine. We are weary of change, but sometimes (especially when God is involved), change is a good thing.
Thank you for the gentle reminder.
Ouch! You’re right! Some stuff that’s “just me” needs to die off, other parts are keepers. Grant us discernment to know the difference!
