Missing the Mark

“This is my command—be strong and courageous! Do not be afraid or discouraged. For the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” – Joshua 1:9 (NLT)

Last month I was courageous enough to submit 150 of my photographs to a panel of 3 judges for evaluation. This was the first time ever that I stepped out of my comfort zone. It took 2 weeks to get the results. Well, I missed the mark; by 3 points.

Needless to say, I was devastated. The day of receiving the result, I was thinking to never, ever pick up my camera again. However, on day two I really thought about the results and went over the evaluation again. You see, I can stick my head in the sand or take the results as a reason to grow to get even better. Today I am even more determined to make it next time. I missed the mark by only 3 points; I am not that far off.

When Joshua took the lead moving the Israelites to the promised land, he too was afraid. But God promised him to move past his fears and to trust Him to move forward.

Sometimes we fail. We can either lay down in defeat, or we can move past the missed mark. I am choosing to move forward. I have signed up for 2 photography classes to get even better at my craft. And in 6 months I will again submit my portfolio for evaluation.

“You are never too old to set another goal or dream a new dream” ~ C.S. Lewis

Lord of mercy and grace. Thank You for giving me the courage and confidence to move past my fears and failures. I am trusting that You are always with me. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
