I saw with my own eyes, believe me!

Oldest son came in yelling, “Mom you should have seen youngest son jump rope! He jumped for over 3 minutes with out missing a beat.” I responded saying, “are you sure it was 3 minutes that can be a long time.” Son responded, “Mom, I saw it with my own eyes, he jumped for 3 minutes straight without missing.”

How many times have you been questioned about what you saw? And you want to yell, “but I saw it with my own eyes” BELIEVE ME!

Simon Peter felt the same way. Peter was the first disciple to claim Jesus as the Messiah, but he also denied Jesus three times. On so many levels we can relate to Peter’s faithlessness. Peter gives us hope; we can see that through Peter’s weakness and sinfulness that it can all be overcome through faith in Jesus Christ. Peter pleads, “take it from me, I have been there, I have seen with my own eyes. I too have failed, but I have seen the truth with my own eyes!”

We weren’t, you know, just wishing on a star when we laid the facts out before you regarding the powerful return of our Master, Jesus Christ. We were there for the preview! We saw it with our own eyes: Jesus resplendent with light from God the Father……2 Peter 1:16-18

He is talking about the time he was on the mountain with Jesus along with John and James. Peter is saying, believe me I saw it, I heard God! I was an eyewitness `of his sovereign majesty. ` Peter was so overcome on the mountain he wanted to do something (built a tent, something) But in God’s own way, he hushed Peter saying:

(which I imagine was in a booming voice) “This is my Son, marked by my love, focus of all my delight.”2 Peter 1:17

Peter, John, and James were so over come they fell down on their faces.

Later Peter told people, ‘I was there on the holy mountain with Him. I heard the voice out of heaven with my very own ears.” BELIEVE ME, but more importantly BELIEVE HIM. He is the risen Lord, He is King of Kings and Lord of Lords, He is the I AM.

Heavenly Father, thank you that I can believe you and believe IN you, even though my eyes have not seen you. Peter saw you and still struggled. Thank you for giving us Peter’s eye witness account and knowing that despite Peter’s weaknesses you still called him your rock. Take my weaknesses, take my failures, and use me to further your kingdom. Amen.

I love what you wrote, “Peter saw you and still struggled.” I always wonder how could he have done that and then I quickly remember how weak I am.

Amen, Laurel. I think Peter is a great example that even though He doubted and struggled at times, God used him in mighty ways. I am reading currently the Book of Acts – very powerful. Peter did a great job preaching to the crowds…So, there is still hope for me to be a might witness 🙂

Thank you for sharing your thoughts this morning.

I am reading throught the New Testament and just read that passage last night…

…something I thought is that even when Peter had such an experience with God (such a strong, amazing sign that God exists), he still denied Jesus (God), and yet God still forgave him and used him for good. God knows we are a stubborn people and still loves us.
