Providential Protection
God reminded me today He is watching over me and those I love, even when I’m not aware of it. Let me tell you what happened. I let my dog Daisy out to do her business, and promptly forgot about her. We live in an urban area, next to a cemetery, and Daisy has gotten out of the yard before and wandered the neighborhood. Once she was brought back home by a fireman! This morning my mind was elsewhere; I forgot to let her back in the house, and walked to my campus.
I worked in the Center for Online Learning today, and when I arrived the internet was not working! Funny, right?! An adjunct faculty member wanted a training, and I couldn’t get online, but I had the power point presentation on my flash drive, which I had thrown in my bag before I left the house–so I thought. I searched and searched through my bag, but I couldn’t find the flash drive. Not only does it have a lot of important documents, it also has the latest version of my current novel. Needless to say, I was getting stressed out.
As I live only a few blocks from campus, I decided to walk home and see if I could find my flash drive. I told my colleague I’d be back in 15 minutes, and trekked home. When I got home I was not greeted by my dog barking and swiftly realized I had forgotten to let her back in the house! Thankfully, Daisy was waiting patiently on the back steps. She got an extra treat! My flash drive was not in the house, so I walked back to campus.
I gave the training from memory, thankful my dog was okay but still worried about the location of my flash drive. In my bag was a travel cup for iced coffee, tall, clear and pink-colored, with a top. My plan was to take it back to Dunkin Donuts to get a replacement (free, I hoped) as it had warped in the dishwasher. As I glanced over at the travel cup sitting on top of the table, what did I spy inside? My flash drive!! When I threw it in my bag it landed in the travel cup. It’s pink, so I didn’t see it.
I realized that God was protecting my dog from wandering the neighborhood by “hiding” my flash drive and putting the thought in my mind to go back home. It made me wonder how many times God has protected me from something, or from myself, unbeknownst to me. I firmly believe we have no idea how many times God has rescued us and delivered us on a daily basis. I am so thankful that even when I make mistakes or do something foolish, God has His eyes on me and He providentially protects me, even when I’m unaware.
“For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways.” Psalm 91:11
“Because he holds fast to me in love, I will deliver him; I will protect him, because he knows my name.” Psalm 91:14

- He Sees You
I am so glad that your dog was safe, and that you found the flash drive. I agree with you; how often has God protected or guided me without me knowing.
Thanks, Iris. I am now so much more aware of little graces and His providence daily!
