Romanced

Valentines Day.

Chocolates. Roses. Love at first site. Candlelight dinners. Dreams. Romance.

Maybe your’s met your expectations but we all know that that is seldom. Why is that? Why do we allow ourselves to think that maybe someone will remember us and give us that perfect something? Or maybe you are like me and refuse to expect anything knowing that that way you won’t be disappointed. Yet as often as I deny that I long for romance I know in the back of my heart the longing remains. Who am I fooling?

We were designed for romance. We have a divine Lover who longs for our hearts. He woos us with the most beautiful flowers, ravishing sunsets, breathtaking mornings, star filled nights, a good book on a cold day, a lovely site or the perfectly worded thought. He gives us dreams to dream, hopes to hope, and the promise of everlasting life. He gives us work that satisfies us to the very heart, relationships to help us grow, music to help us worship Him. All He wants is our heart.

Jeremiah 24:6-7 6 My eyes will watch over them for their good, and I will bring them back to this land. I will build them up and not tear them down; I will plant them and not uproot them. 7 I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the LORD. They will be my people, and I will be their God, for they will return to me with all their heart.

Jeremiah 32: 40-41 40 I will make an everlasting covenant with them: I will never stop doing good to them, and I will inspire them to fear me, so that they will never turn away from me. 41 I will rejoice in doing them good and will assuredly plant them in this land with all my heart and soul.

Take your longing for romance to the Lord. He delights in wooing your heart, and unlike our earthly relationships, He knows your heart perfectly, and He knows what will bring us the greatest joy. He longs to romance your heart and draw you closer to Him.

Matthew 7: 7“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.

Lord, we long for romance because You have placed that longing in our hearts. Lord, use it to draw us to You and protect us from confusion about the worldly version of romance. Lord, You would give us all that we long for, if we only ask. Lord, we come to You, asking that You show us Your version of romance, the greatest romance there is.

When was the last time you noticed the Lord wooing you?

Just beautiful, Heather. I think that he woos me every day, but some days I am just not listening…

Blessings on your day and always.
