PITCH THAT TENT
I love this time of year, as springtime pops up all around us.
- Flowers blooming
- Sun shining
- Birds chirping.
- Going camping.
CAMPING?
Ok, seriously, it has been several years since we have packed our family up and went tent camping. But we have all of the equipment, and each springtime, we dust it all off and talk BIG about how we are going to go this year! So far it is just talk.
When our children were younger, it was a big deal to set up the tent in the backyard to air it out. The boys really liked to get in and “pretend” that they were on some great camping expedition.
Have you ever considered what it would be like if a family member were to pitch a tent in your backyard to live in? They would probably have to come in the house to use your bathroom and occasionally eat their meals with you. They would be camping in your backyard, but they would be with you most of the time. There is no doubt that their lives would be intertwined with yours.
JOHN 1:14 “The Word became flesh, and dwelt among us.”
The Greek word translated for dwelt is the word “set up a tent”. This passage in John 1 is saying that God became a person who has set up His tent in our backyard. He did this so that His life would be intertwined with ours – so that we would share our lives with Him and so that we can see Him up close and really get to know Him.
REVELATION 21:3 “I heard a loud shout from the throne, saying, ‘Look, God’s home is now among His people! He will live with them, and they will be His people. God Himself will be with them.”
Consider for a moment … what is your life intertwined with?
Is God’s presence so intertwined with you that you would say His tent has been pitched in your backyard?
IF NOT, IT’S NOT TOO LATE TO PITCH THAT TENT!
Happy Camping my friend!

I enjoyed this, bless you.
I enjoy thinking of God’s tent in my backyard. This is a wonderful visual for me. Thank you.
Wow… God’s tent is in my backyard… cool! I like that visual too! What a great thought. God bless you.
Hi Laurie, I enjoyed your post and how you used the theme of a tent and camping to make such a wonderful point. Have a great day.
Loved your camping analogy! Close and intimate with the Lord….what could be better!
The words are also so meaningful, they bring a great peace to me
Great food for thought Laurie! I love your heart on this! 🙂
Great devotional. I love the camping analogy. “What is your life intertwined with?” Something to really think about. Thanks for the great post.
Ah yes! That wonderful tent of meeting like Moses had to meet with the Lord. I would LOVE to have that in my backyard!
And as far as tent camping goes, I got ruined a few years ago when we borrowed an RV. Now THAT’S my idea of camping!! LOL
Considering the fact that my boy is a Cub Scout and I’m a den leader, I get more than my share of pitching tents! And considering the comfort level when you sleep in one, I think I may just go ahead and invite God INTO my house instead of leaving Him out in the backyard! (my husband, on the other hand, sometimes DESERVES the tent but STILL gets the master bedroom… and that is true love! lol….)
I am glad that my Lord has pitched His ‘tent’ in my heart 🙂 – BTW, when I was little we used to go camping all the time (money reasons)…I haven’t been camping since my childhood – don’t like to sleep on the hard-floor 😆
Thank you for sharing your encouraging words with us…
Thanks for the good thought.
