Still He Walked
He could hear the crowds screaming “crucify” “crucify”…
He could hear the hatred in their voices,
These were his chosen people.
He loved them,
And they were going to crucify him.
He was beaten, bleeding, and weakened… his heart was broken,
But still He walked.
He could see the crowd as he came from the palace.
He knew each of the faces so well.
He had created them.
He knew every smile, laugh, and shed tear,
But now they were contorted with rage and anger…his heart broke,
But still He walked.
Was he scared?
You and I would have been
So his humanness would have mandated that he was. He felt alone.
His disciples had left, denied, and even betrayed him.
He searched the crowd for a loving face and he saw very few.
Then he turned his eyes to the only one that mattered
And he knew that he would never be alone.
He looked back at the crowd, at the people who were spitting
At him, throwing rocks at him and mocking him and he knew
That because of him, they would never be alone.
So for them, He walked.
The sounds of the hammer striking the spikes echoed through
The crowd. The sounds of his cries echoed even louder,
The cheers of the crowd, as his hands and feet
Were nailed to the cross, intensified with each blow.
Loudest of all was the still small voice inside his
Heart that whispered “I am with you, my son”,
And God’s heart broke.
He had let his son walk.
Jesus could have asked God to end his suffering,
But instead he asked God to forgive.
Not to forgive him, but to forgive the ones who were persecuting
him.
As he hung on that cross, dying an unimaginable death,
He looked out and saw, not only the faces in the crowd,
But also, the face of every person yet to be,
And his heart filled with love.
As his body was dying, his heart was alive.
Alive with the limitless, unconditional love he feels for each of
us.
That is why He walked.
When I forget how much My God loves me,
I remember his walk.
When I wonder if I can be forgiven,
I remember his walk.
When I need reminding of how to live like Christ,
I think of his walk.
And to show him how much I love him,
I wake up each morning, turn my eyes to him,
And I walk.

When life is hard, people have hurt you, you feel beaten and abused I want you to think of one thing….What a difference a day makes!
You may not understand why he did this, or why he had to die. I mean he IS GOD after all. The first man, Adam, brought sin upon man. Adam’s sin was placed on all of us, so God had to send someone who was blameless and free from sin to take our sins away. Christ then replaced Adam (Paul calls Christ the “last Adam”), stood in our place (received what WE deserved). Christ had to come to earth and become man in order to be our representative in our place. Christ then became our second and last Adam. We are now declared righteous before God because of what Christ did for us.
Heavenly Father/Abba,
I am at a loss for words. I praise you and thank you for allowing your Son to stand in my place. I can not understand it no matter how hard I try, but I accept it. I believe in your Son, I believe he died on the cross for MY sins, so I could have eternal life with you. And my job here on earth is to point others to your Son and the huge sacrifice he paid. I am no longer in bondage, Christ has set me free. I praise your Holy name. And thank you Jesus, what a difference a day can make!!! Amen.
- It’s Friday but Sunday’s a-Comin’!

You are so right Laurel, what a difference a day can make. Thank you for sharing this.

Christ has set me free! Amen! Thanks for sharing, Laurel.
Laurel,
One day… One Life… It is profound. We are able to do anything through this one man’s offering.
And because of His walk… we learn how to walk. Let us fix our eyes on Jesus…Heb. 12:1-3
Thank you for this. What a blessed reminder for me this Saturday before Easter!
What a poem. Said outloud it brings tears to one’s eyes. I hope it is okay, I borrowed this to pass on to my contacts. Thank you. Happy Easter.
Amen, Laurel. Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful post. Yes, He has set me free from the bondage of sin…
See you at the empty tomb.
Blessings to your Resurrection Sunday.
Thank you for that beautiful poem Laurel. It paints such a miraculous picture of love. Because He took that walk, He has made it possible for each of us to step from this life into eternity with Him. I can’t take it in either. I was just praying this morning that the Lord would make it more “real” to me. I want to love Him more, know Him more, serve Him better.
This post puts the “cap” on it for me today. I’m going to turn off the computer now and just think about all of these things.
Have a blessed Easter Laurel. You bless my heart.
It’s a shame the author is unknown. This is so beautifully written, it brought tears to my eyes. I feel like I should watch The Passion of the Christ this weekend, but I simply cannot bear to ever watch it again. Wonderful Easter post, Laurel Wreath.
You always inspire me to not take my thoughts off Jesus for a minute…Wonderful devotion!
That was an inspiring post…..I loved the poem!
