When Jesus Comes
Matthew 24:42-44
“Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.
Jesus warns us to be ready because He is coming. We won’t know when or where but we can be sure that He will come. How many of us live as though Jesus is coming today? Tomorrow? The next day? Next Year? Our next breath? I know I don’t. Sure I might think of it now and then but I am easily distracted. I get caught up in the little things. I try not to complain but still, I do. Here are some questions I thought I’d ask myself knowing that Jesus can come at any time:
Should I be more forgiving?
Should I forgive myself?
Should I be more generous?
Should I pursue my dreams now and not procrastinate?
Should I feel and express more gratitude for my blessings?
Should I start right now doing what God wants me to do?
Should I stop making excuses?
Should I finally let go of my fear, burdens and guilt?
Should I accept that there is nothing greater than God’s love for me?
If today is my last day, if this is all I get, am I ready?
Do I want to gamble on eternal life in heaven?
Father in Heaven, I ask you to grant me the strength and wisdom so that I live accordingly and live ready. In My Savior’s name I pray. Amen.
