Hollywood

hollywood.jpgI don’t trust Hollywood. The entertainment industry of my home state, California, mostly infuriates me.

Time and again Hollywood produces films, television and music that fly in the face of my Christian faith. Christian values and teaching are relentlessly assaulted in almost every area of the media. A recent example of this treachery is a film where Jesus is depicted as a married man, mortal and buried in a grave outside of Jerusalem.

Documentaries on weekly television which interpret scriptures based upon the word of a psychic are also on my list. Music and lyrics so offensive it curls my hair and literally can make me nauseous. These constant attacks on my beliefs leave me with a abhorrence to most things, Hollywood.

Hollywood and the players there who are set on a worldly, sometimes evil agenda. However, once in a great while there are people who work in this industry who are heroes. There are those who stand against the tide of immorality. Praise God!

Once in a while the film industry finds a moral conscious and releases a film that God would even pay to see *grin.* The Chronicles of Narnia, The Passion of the Christ, and even Evan Almighty are films that affect mainstream audiences for the cause of Christ.

Although the directors and writers may not get the story line perfect they succeed in reflecting some of God’s immensity to a lost world.

Last weekend I went to see Evan Almighty. Some may be offended by a few liberties taken in this film. I however, live with an unbeliever and know that the story line and the inferences to God are close enough to elicit a thoughtful consideration of our Creator.

This film was delightful and filled with many truths. I laughed throughout the film and viewed the story as a lighthearted attempt to introduce nonbelievers to a God they do not know.

What impressed me the most was how the film delved into the human/God relationship through Evan’s unwillingness to obey. Dose this sound like us?

Without giving away much of the story, God asks Evan to build an Ark. Evan fights with God through the entire process. At the end of the film Evan says to God, “You accomplished this (feat) with me fighting against You all the way.”evan.jpg

I related to this telling of the classic Bible story. I can also fight against God and yet He accomplishes is purposes in spite of me and with my help anyway.

I left the theater hugging my daughter, chuckling at the absurdity of it all and awe inspired at the core truths about our God.

Just for today, Hollywood doesn’t seem so bad. For today, I can see a glimpse of our patient and loving God through the big screen. And it was good!

Lord God, I pray you will use this film to seek those who are hopelessly lost in a life of destruction. You hold the key to the door and will use every avenue, all avenues, to seek out those You have chosen. O, Lord, find many this summer. Thank you for bold men and women who are willing to risk much to expose the darkness. In Jesus name, Amen.

Be blessed my friends and see you at the movies!

I don’t trust Hollywood either and really loved that movie! It actually made me cry because I was overwhelmed at the thought of dropping everything and just not caring what people thought. When we walked out of the theater, all the kids in the audience were saying that they loved it and clapping and it really gave me that warm & fuzzy feeling.

Oh – I agree Lynn – with everything!!! We saw “Evan Almighty” on friday – loved it!! We hardly go to the movies any more because I just can’t sit through that “stuff”. But evey now and then one comes along that I can feel good about watching. I pray this movie will touch people’s hearts as well as make them laugh.

I haven’t seen this movie yet but am now looking forward to it. I am grateful for those good movies that come along even though they are few and far between. Thanks!

I am glad that you had a great time at the movies. Yes, Hollywood is doing some things for the Godly community. Actually, Fox now has a devision just for Christian movies. I hope that our Lord will continue to use the media to get the message of His love across. May He pursue people to find the way back to Him.
Thank you, Lynn for sharing…blessings to you and yours.

How refreshing to read a positive review of the movie by a Christian blogger. A lot of folks have taken time to bash/blog about it, and how it is a blasphemous movie.

I am not generally a ‘middle of the road’ kind of person. In this instance, I may be. I can certainly see your point in how that it provoked a good conversation w/the unbelieving husband. Yet I do agree w/the nay-sayers that it demeans the Almighty God.
