The Living Word
Suppose the skeptics have it right,
And there really is no God.
Suppose the Bible that we read
Is not His living word.
Would the life I’ve tried so hard to live
Be just a waste of time?
Would I have missed the better things
While believing in a lie?
I could have lived without a care
Just doing my own thing.
Pursing dreams of happiness
That fame and fortune bring.
Instead I sacrificed my will;
Loved others as myself.
And in the process gained a life
Of fulfillment and true wealth.
I could have lived without constraint
And done what’s right for me.
Not bound by someone’s moral code
Just living wild and free.
Instead I chose obedience
To a standard set for me,
And found not chains that bound me
But a life of liberty.
If the skeptics have it right,
And there really is no God.
How can I explain away
The wisdom in the Word?
How is it that the words prove true
In everything they say,
And life is so much richer
In each and every way?
“All scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, for training in righteousness;
That the man of God may be adequate, equipped for every good work.”
~ II Timothy 3: 16,17 (NAS)

Linda,
This is beautiful!
Wow Linda, Not long ago I had a conversation with my unbelieving spouse that was exactly along these lines.
A life well lived… Honor, dignity and grace. However, more importantly, we KNOW the truth. We live not only for today but we live for our certain eternity with God.
FAN-TAS-TIC!!!!
Beautiful! I have thought those same thoughts so many times. I wish I could put them in words as beautiful as these. But you did it, and I can appreciate it.
Hi Linda,
That was beautiful! May I reprint it in my newsletter? (All credit will go to you and this blog will be linked as well.) I have a Christian women’s website and a newsletter that I send out weekly for it and my blogs. I would love to include your poem. (If it is not your original work, please do let me know the original author’s name. This blog will still be linked and your name given as the source of the information.) Thank you and may the peace of the Lord be upon you.
What a lovely poem Linda.
