Trendy Decoration?
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” ~ Hebrews 12:1-2 (ESV)
As I was looking through a catalog of a my favorite candle distributor I noticed some really neat crosses. Looking at their description, my mouth fell open. The candle distributor was advertising the crosses as “the latest trend of home decoration”. Hm, really?!?
You see, I have several crosses in my home. But I don’t see my displaying them as home-decoration. For me, the crosses serve as a reminder what Christ did to redeem me; He endured the cross on my behalf. I also wear a cross pendant around my neck to be reminded who I belong to. I know that many wear a cross, but do not know the meaning behind it. I guess there is another trend?!?
Paul reminds us in his letter to the church of Corinth, that not all understand the cross; he writes:
“For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.”
~ 1 Corinthians 18:1 (ESV)
So, should I write a letter to the editor of the catalog to explain what the cross means to me personally, and to others? I don’t know; I am still thinking about it. In the meantime I pray that someone will read my post and will be drawn to the Cross for the right reason…
Lord of Heaven and Earth. Thank You for the Cross. Thank You for founding my faith and keep perfecting it. Lord, may I always look up when my soul is down. May I share my hope with the ones that look at Your cross as folly. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

Yes, we must all share our hope with those that see His cross as folly dear friend.
Amen Iris. May this new decorating trend cause people to seek what the cross truly symbolizes.
Yes, the cross is much, much more than a “decorating trend” – and praise God that it is! I pray that as people notice the crosses I have “decorating” my home, they also see the witness of Christ in my words and actions.

Good point, Iris. I have thought before that many do not even realize the value of the cross or what it means. I know what I think of when I see a cross but I wonder what others think or do they think anything at all?
Have a good day!
Bethany
The cross is so precious to us Iris. I think it would be a great idea to send them a little note. Perhaps the Lord will use it to plant a little seed.
