First Love

Do you remember your first love? Remember how much you missed him when you were apart? Remember how you kept your love notes in a secret place and reread them over and over? Remember talking for hours, holding hands, and making sure you locked eyes every time you saw each other?

Oh the joys of love.

My son Justin is in love. His first love. Over two years now. It’s absolutely precious to watch Justin be a gentleman. Seeing him express his love to his girlfriend makes me cry.

Like when he spent hours with my dad(his grandpa) making handmade gifts. Together they labored with a welder, saws, hammers, you name it, they used it. When they finished they were a mess, sweaty and dirty, but smiling and satisfied. Mission accomplished. A polished copper bracelet, a piece of art: metal heart with engraved initials, and this small love tag.

All for one purpose. For first love.

I want love like that again with God. I want passionate first love. I want to lock eyes with Jesus. I want to reread His Love Notes over and over.

So to start 2011, I’m turning back to where I belong. In the arms of my first love, Jesus. There I am smiling and satisfied.

Lord God, I confess I’ve found other loves over the past year. So today I lay them at Your feet. You know what they are. Take them. I don’t want them taking Your place anymore. Thank You for using my son to remind me of how precious and beautiful love can be. I must have forgot. Again. Thank You for romancing me as I seek Your face. I want to live my life in love with You. Thank You for loving me first. In Jesus’ name, Amen

But I have this [one charge to make] against you: that you have left (abandoned) the love that you had at first [you have deserted Me, your first love]. Rev. 2:4 (Amplified Bible)

Amen to that Tiffany. May too have pushed Him in the background for other things. I echo your prayer. Thank you for the reminder.
