Resting in His Sovereignty
My life is overflowing with changes right now. Our second daughter just got married last week. Our youngest, our only son, graduated from high school this year and will be going to college in another state. Recently, my husband’s company transferred him to Houston. We will be moving there from West Texas later this summer. My father-in-law will be moving and living with us.
Can you say “overwhelming?”
Amidst all this change, I am clinging to the reassuring truth that God is in control of it all. The sovereignty of God covers all this and more. The changes in my family, the uncertainty of the economy, and even the extreme nature of our recent weather is in His hands. As my family and I trust in Him and follow His guidance we will be right where He wants us to be.
In the twenty-eight years my husband and I have been married, his company has moved us six times. From South Louisiana to Wyoming to West Texas to Alberta to Houston to West Texas again and now back to Houston. Several years ago I discovered a Scripture that strengthens my trust in my sovereign God.
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else. From one man he made every nation of men, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he determined the times set for them and the exact places where they should live. God did this so that men would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us… Acts 17:24-27, NIV
My God is the sole giver of life. He does not need anything from any of us. He is completely self-sufficient. He planned every nation throughout the history of the earth. He decided when and where they would live.
Wow! This is the same God who has a plan for my life. He determines where I should live and when I should live there. He has got it all under control. Even when I feel out-of-control. In fact, I don’t have any reason to feel out-of-control. Whew!
What about you? What do you need to turn over to our all-powerful, sovereign God?
- What is this word “Abound”?
- Godly Time Out
Change has always been challenging for me. The Scripture verses from Acts are so comforting though. Only He knows all and is in control.
What I need to do is to walk by faith and to fully obey His Word. Then I enter into His rest. I’ve been reading Hebrews lately and this has resonated with me. Perfect timing to be reading your post.
Blessings and love,
Debbie
Debbie, thanks so much for sharing that. I was reading some of God’s promises this morning too. I love that Jesus promised to give me rest if I come to Him with my burdens and weariness!
I really need to turn over my health issues and the process of preparing to move next year. I keep “trying” to turn them over, but I think that’s the problem. I keep trying, when I just need to let go and let God.

Tianna Mae, so sorry to hear you are dealing with health issues and a move on top of that! Yes, God indeed wants to carry our burdens. Giving Him our burdens doesn’t mean we don’t have to do anything. Give God the worry and anxiety and then follow His guidance in how you should deal with each problem and challenge. He will lead but we must follow!
Certain kinds of changes are very hard for me and when they occur I really have to remember that has filtered everything that touches my life through His fingers of love…
He must have wonderful new plans for you and your family since you are moving….
I can’t wait to hear about all your God adventures as this process unfolds……He will keep you in His precious hand……
Wow! What a new season God is leading you to and like the saying goes…”If He leads you to it, He will lead you thru it!” I’m in one of those kind of “new” seasons, scary and intimidating sometimes, but what reassurance we have that God is with us in ALL of the seasons! I appreciate your heart. Thanks for sharing.
Nancy, thank you for your kind words! And thank you for reminding us all that God truly does know all that is going on in our lives. What a comfort that is!
Thank you Laurie! And yes, praise God He does have the power to bring us through anything He has brought us to!
