Angels Watching Over Me
“Bernie! Bernie!” It was shortly after 6:00 AM when I heard a frantic voice calling my name. I quickly opened my bedroom door to go and check to see who visiting so early in the morning. It didn’t even register to me that the voice was coming from the inside of my house and not the outside.
As I stepped into the hallway I was taken aback to see the frightened face of my cousin who happens to be my next door neighbor. Her son had told her that when he went out earlier he saw that my front door, which faced the street, was open and when he returned the door was still opened and there was no sign of me.
The fear was obvious on my cousin’s face as she spoke to me. My door had been physically open that entire night. She didn’t know if she was going to meet me seriously hurt or worst case scenario dead. Even now when I think about it, chills go down my spine.
9 If you make the Most High your dwelling—
even the LORD, who is my refuge-
10 then no harm will befall you,
no disaster will come near your tent.
11 For he will command his angels concerning you
to guard you in all your ways; Psalm 91: 9-11 (NIV)emphasis mine
This happened almost three years ago, a week before my mother died. When this happened she had been in the hospital in the United States for over six months and I was home in the Bahamas not having seen her for almost a month and I wasn’t handling it very well, hence the forgotten, unsecured door.
I am so thankful that God sent his angels to stand guard at my front door that night and no one with evil intent entered my home while I slept.

Lord I thank you that you always watch over your children. Thank you for keeping us safe during those times when we unknowingly place ourselves in harm’s way. You are indeed an awesome God and I will serve you all of my days.

I absolutely believe the angels stand guard around us with swords drawn at times.

I was touched by this story about angels watching over us. I too feel so protected by God…just like in the OT, as the blood over the door protected those faithful to God! I don’t worry, cuz God has us…Just like the firery furnace…God will go into the funace with us if HE does not save us from it!
I experienced a similar story when God put me back to sleep that kept me from opening a door that could have caused me or my young children harm!
Wild dogs chased my bottle raised sheep up onto my front porch in the middle of the night! I sit straight up in bed when I heard a very loud bang at the door, as it rattled as if someone was trying to get in…YET I fell directly back to sleep without investigating!
Not like me to fall asleep before all the pitter patters in my heart stop, especially since my husband was out of town and I was home alone with my kids! I fell back to sleep almost immediately!
I believe that God was protecting us, because had I done what I would have done…the wild dogs could have barged in my home with my sleeping children! God protected me and my kids from harm by causing me to go back to sleep!
And this is just one of many times that God has protected us! Sometimes I know that God IS protecting us…and sometimes God protects us and I never knew that danger was even near!
God will never leave or forsake us! God bless us one and all! We serve a faithful God!
