Be Bold – Be Fearless – Be You
Out of my distress I called on the Lord;
the Lord answered me and set me free.
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
The Lord is on my side as my helper;
I shall look in triumph on those who hate me.
Psalm 118:5-7
Here we are…mere days away from a new year. As Ann and Katie have shared the last couple of days, we often make resolutions for a new year. For me, resolutions are broken within a few days.
However, I do always (at least for the past 8 years) have picked a word as a ‘banner’ for the year to come. For 2017, the ‘banner word’ came in November. As I am getting older, I feel that time is running out for new things to try or make a change in direction of my life. But does my age really matter? Not really!
One of my favorite quotes of 2016 is from Donald Walsch:
“Life begins at the end of your comfort zone”
Trust me, in 2016, I stepped out of my comfort zone several times. I have tried new things. For one, I attended a photography conference in Seattle. You see, as an introvert, it is not easy to be in a room full of strangers. However, this was the best thing that I did for myself. When you are surrounded by like-minded people, you don’t have to fear, but you will get inspirited and move forward.
So what is my word for 2017? Well, it is not just a word, but more a theme. “Be Bold – Be Fearless – Be You”…Trying to be bold is not easy for me; I also need to be fearless. We often get intimidated by others. We fear that we are not good enough for whatever reason. However, being a child of God, we do not need to fear for things to come. As the Psalmist wrote in verse 118:6: “The Lord is on my side; I will not fear. What can man do to me?”
My sweet friend; whatever your fear may be, don’t be dismayed. God is by your side, no matter what! With that in mind, be bold – be fearless – be you.
“Lord of mercy and grace. Thank You for being by our side. Thank you for giving us your strength and peace as we are walking into the new year. Help us to be fearless. We are trusting in Your mercy. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen”
Happy New Year!!!
