Be Still
There can be no doubt that we are living in difficult times. If it were possible to somehow escape the headlines and stories about war, disease, famine, persecution and coming doom; if it were possible to ignore the images of unimaginable evil, we have only to answer the phone or talk to a friend to feel overwhelmed by despair. Suffering, it seems, surrounds us. Some days it feels like things are out of control.
But did you know:
“You are on a planet that is rotating on its axis at 1,000 miles per hour. Like clockwork, it makes one full revolution every twenty-four hours. And if that isn’t amazing enough, planet Earth is moving around the sun at speeds approaching 67,000 miles per hour!” (“Draw the Circle” by Mark Batterson).
This is just one thing, among more than we can number, that happens outside of our knowing – let alone our control. If the Lord can manage such things as these, can He not take care of every single thing that comes close to us? We don’t have to walk around worrying about sailing off the face of the earth as it spins wildly through space. We don’t have to worry about the earth deviating from its assigned path and crashing into the sun. We trust God will take care of those things, and they are big things.
If we can trust Him for those, surely we can trust Him to take care of us and those who are dear to us in every circumstance. He is bigger than the headlines and pictures and bad news. He is the God for whom nothing is impossible. He promises over and over again to never leave us or forsake us. The circumstances don’t always change according to our plans, but we can trust He has a plan that is good and right.
He offers us a place of rest in the midst of chaos. He wraps His mighty arms around us and holds us close to His heart. He assures us that all will be well.
“Be still and know that I am God! I will be honored by every nation. I will be honored throughout the world.”
Blessings,
Linda

Linda, this message is so needed and especially appropriate this week as we hear more and more about possible attacks in our country. Thank you for reminding us again that God is in control and will never relinquish His power.
That quote made me think of climbing on a roller coaster at an amusement park. We climb onto the ride, fasten the seatbelt, and hold on…and we trust that the train will stay on its tracks. We trust the person running the ride, we trust the designer and we trust the design to hold us on the track. Maybe that’s not a good analogy, but it involves some amount of trust in something that could feel out of control. Why don’t we feel the same with God and His creation, His design, His plan?
It is so good to know that He is there every day and gives us the strength we need to face the day. There will be good and bad days, but at the end, God will walk with us.
Amen! It’s so hard to keep this in mind at times, many times. BUT He has everything under control and nothing goes unseen. Thanks Linda!
Well, it’s 12:23 a.m. I’m UP! My arms hurt (torn tendon that has undergone physical therapy and is 90% better than it used to be), my knee hurts (I’ve shopped all day and walked A LOT!), I listened to the President tonight (not very much), I can’t quit thinking about ISIS and what is going to happen to us in America, tomorrow is Sept. 11th (actually today now), and I am overwhelmed and can’t sleep. I keep thinking about tomorrow and how much I have to do. Finally I get out of bed, come in here and read your post. You reminded me of how my loving Father cares for me. It is all in His hands. How can I NOT trust Him??? Why worry? I am so mad at myself for lying in that bed concerned about everything that pops into my mind. Believe it or not, I am a Christian. I am just not acting like one tonight. He will take care of me and I can rest on that. Thanks for the sweet reminder that I needed to read.
