Beauty and blessings
As we traveled on our vacation we did a lot of driving. We split up the trip from Texas to Tennessee with stops along the way. Then once we were in Tennessee we had the new experience of driving through the beautiful mountains.
When we made it to Tennessee, we enjoyed the beauty of the mountains and just watched in awe as we drove along. A man at our cabin recommended that if we had time we should go on a certain scenic drive before we left town. As we headed out we followed the river down the road. We saw some beautiful trees and the water rushing over the rocks.
We came to a spot in the road where several cars were stopped alongside the road. As we got out, I thought all the people were looking at the river down below and taking pictures of it. Then when I moved over I saw they had stopped for a waterfall! It was nestled back from the road amidst some trees so it wasn’t that noticeable as we were passing. You had to pay attention to notice it. I thought to myself how we almost missed this beautiful site! If I hadn’t moved over and looked up, I would have missed that chance to see the waterfall.
How many times in life do we miss the beauty and blessings God has placed in our life? We are surrounded by distractions…television, phones, internet, Pinterest, Facebook. We live in a distracted society, and yet every day there are blessings that are right in front if us that we will not notice if we are not paying attention.
God has created such beauty in His creation. As we drove and saw the mountains and trees everywhere, we were simply in awe. Those big mountains were definitely hard to miss because of their great size and made me consider how many times we DO miss the little things, like the waterfall, because we aren’t paying attention. Too often we miss these blessings that God places right in front of us.
How often do we miss the beauty of God’s creation because we are too distracted to notice? How often do we miss receiving or sharing a blessing with another because we are too busy with the things of daily life?
What beauty and blessings does God have waiting for you today? Look up and take notice.
“How many are your works, Lord! In wisdom you made them all; the earth is full of your creatures.” Psalm 104:24
Thank you for the beautiful creation that surrounds us. Help each of us, Lord, to find the beauty you have given us today. May we not take these things for granted in our distracted life. In your name I pray, amen.

Amen and amen, Bethany. You are right; we often miss the small blessings in life. We should walk through life with our eyes wide open, because blessings are all around us.
