Commending The Works Of God
One generation shall commend your works to another, and shall declare your mighty acts. On the glorious splendor of your majesty, and on your wondrous works, I will meditate. They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds, and I will declare your greatness. Psalm 145:4-6 ESV
In our homeschool co-op, we finished a unit study in our wonderful curriculum (Tapestry of Grace) on ancient Egypt. That unit included an overview study through Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy. Part of that curriculum overview included an in-depth exploration of the Passover.
To bring what we had read and looked at over the weeks to life, we were blessed to be a part of a full Passover meal that was just for our co-op. This wonderful couple, who happen to be the in-laws of a mom in our group, had us in their home and presented an amazing authentic Passover meal. The children in our group learned so much that evening about Passover and how each part of the Seder Meal is a reference to Christ. Further, this couple equipped us, the parents, to be able to go into our home and create a Passover meal to share with our family for many years to come.
These verses in Psalm lay out a Biblical model for Christian households to follow. We are to share the gospel message with the next generation. We are to share God’s amazing works in our own lives as well as His works recorded directly in Scripture. The Passover meal made this a ritual every year in Hebrew families.
This whole model for Biblical families got me thinking though that our sharing with other generations goes beyond our households too. Each one of us is most likely in a position to see that the glorious works of God are shared with another generation. I started pondering some of these areas: Sunday School, Bible Study, Children’s Programs, Homeschool, Co-Op, Friends, Family, Neighbors, Blogs, Devotions, Facebook, Twitter and yes…even Pinterest! With modern technology, we really have a growing platform to share God’s works with those younger (and older) than us.
Even in the book of Titus, woman are exhorted to teach the younger generations. When we share about God’s goodness, we teach others about his character.
Ladies, be encouraged to share your testimony to other generations. Share the wonderful things God has done for you. Sharing what God has done in our life encourages those coming up behind us.
The funny thing, this is for me as much as everyone else because I tend to be quiet and not say much. I need to step it up and be willing to speak to the younger generations more openly. When I chaperoned our church’s youth camp last summer, I found out just how uncomfortable I was with the teenage generation – even though I have a daughter about to enter it! I felt inadequate and ill-equipped to mentor and discuss with the young ladies in my group. But as I read through God’s word, I clearly see that this is His design and if He designed it, it has to work. I may not see the fruits immediately, or they may think I’m off or not in touch. But the seed has been planted. For me, its easy to share with my children. We homeschool and the Bible is a central part of our school but sharing with others is outside of my comfort zone.
I’d like to close today doing something a bit different. Lets begin by sharing in the comments something God has done in your life. How can you commend the works of God to those reading this today? Feel free to share your favorite Bible passage and how it has impacted your life. You never know who is reading and what your words can mean in their life.
I’m looking forward to reading your comments and hopefully several generations of readers will enjoy your comments as well. So, share away!

So well written! I love the verse you shared. I tend to be quiet at times too and feel inadequate to speak up. I shouldn’t though,I have the Spirit of God residing in me.
Philippians 4:19 But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus. That is one of my favorites. We have seen the hand of God over and over providing for us. It gets hard sometimes living on one pay check and raising 3 growing boys. But God has never ceased to meet our needs. Sometimes in big ways and sometimes in little ways, but it’s always met.
Thanks for sharing,Dana!
So true, Dana. We are called to share with all people about God’s marvelous works. There are many Bible passages that have impacted my life, but especially Ephesians 2:8-10: “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
It is so cool that you were able to observe a Passover meal.
