Cross Walk
Every year in our town the residents gather to participate in a unique event, The Good Friday Cross Walk. Young and old, rich and poor, able and handicapped gather in a parking lot to carry every sort of homemade cross on their shoulder to a city park two miles away. We traverse the city streets, cross over a freeway and shuffle down one of the main roads in town. With a few blisters, we arrive at the park and crowd onto the lawn. Once there we sing praise music along with the band, we pray together and then share a picnic lunch.
I love this town because of its unique Christian community. For over 22 years residents have walked the way of the cross to commemorate the death and resurrection of Jesus. It is a moving experience. It does not matter what denomination you hail from or if you are a new believer or one of many years. All gather under one name, Jesus Christ. It is all about Him.
Many of the people walk silently while others will talk. Several people hold signs reading “Jesus Loves You” and “Honk If You Love Jesus.” Many marchers wear T-shirts with phrases such as “Bold In Christ,” “Jesus Freak” and “Real Men Pray.”
Last year was the first time my daughter and I marched. We will be there again this year. We will carry a cross even if it is made of paper. I feel the Holy Spirit calling me to focus on Jesus’ death and more importantly His victory over the grave. I want to distinguish the cross with fresh eyes.
As we embark on the Passion Week, I pray God will reveal a fresh glimpse of His grace in your life.
Ephesians 2:8 (NIV) For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—
Matthew 28:6b He is not here; he has risen, just as he said!
Rejoice this week! We are the chosen. We are the Redeemed! Rejoice, His has risen, just as He said!

Lynn, I’ve had such a busy week this week and I thank you for bringing me back to the remembrance that this week is Passion week, and Sunday is Easter. What a great time to slow down and celebrate what Christ has done for us!
Amen! What wonderful memories this brought back to me– our little community in Iowa used to do this too!
Praise the Lord!
Blessings and thank you!

How awesome that your town is embarking in such a great event. I think it so cool that many people, from different denominations join in this march.
He is Risen – Lynn – He is Risen!!!!
Blessings to you and yours this Holy Week.
How awesome that is. I applaud you and every one who participates. I will share this with you…I was driving down the road and saw a small group of teens walking up the road with a large cross. I just passed by with out a toot of the horn or anything. God said turn around and go talk to them. I turned around went back and pulled over. I rolled down my window still not knowing what I would say. As I opened my mouth words of encouragement just started pouring out of my mouth. Those kids started yelling and praising God and some cried. One of the adults thanked me and said I did not know how much the encouragement touched their hearts. I was so blessed just by being obediant. So I encourage you and every one involve.

yeah Lynn! It’s all about forgiveness. We’d never be set free and able to enter into God’s presence without His grace.
What an amazing way to honor our Saviour! And what a way to feel closer, to draw nearer to Him. Thank you so much for sharing that!
Peace & Grace,
Sherry

Thanks for the blessings Lynn.
The picutres are awesome. I wonder how we would all feel after a walk like that, carry the cross. As we come to this week of Easter I pray that many will lay their burdens at the cross and pick that cross up so we can be strong in our walk with Jesus.

Wow, how cool!!! I am trying to imagine that happening here in Reno…What town are you in? Maybe we should visit some spring! When my babies are a little older I’d like to do something like that as a family.
Thank you so much for sharing.

You make me want to come visit you and your town next year on that day. What a glorious celebration of God’s plan for our salvation!
We call our church bulletin the “Crosswalk”, but this post gives all new meaning to that beautiful idea.

This is such a powerful season. Easte is one of the most important days to remember for Believers. It’s so cool to know the hope of the Cross and to begin to understand even a LITTLE BIT of what the Messiah did for us!
Wow. I’m gonna go find a spot and worship now.
Love you!
How wonderful to have a community to worship Jesus! I live on a mountain and in the country where we worship Jesus also. I am very blessed to live in a community who loves God. What you are doing is such a good reminder of what it is all about! Thanks and God Bless you and your community.
Oh Lynn, that sounds so awesome. I wish we had something like that here. My family went to a re-enactment this weekend which was powerfully moving. What a way to prepare our hearts.
I kept thinking how pleased the Lord must be as He watched the goings-on in your town that day. How awesome!
**enter me please**
What a beautiful tradition. It must bring a wonderful sense of unity and love to all of you.
Lynn, that is so neat! I wish I were there!!! What a great testimony not only to others…but to your own….
Focusing on Christ is what Easter is all about. And not just on that day, although we do have a tendency to focus more this time of year, but I remember after I watched the Passion of the Christ for the first time, I told the Lord…”don’t let me forget”…and I don’t. I remember frequently….This is an incredible expression of love for Him that you are both doing. Bless you in this walk!
