Do Not Compare Yourself
“Oh, don’t worry; we wouldn’t dare say that we are as wonderful as these other men who tell you how important they are! But they are only comparing themselves with each other, using themselves as the standard of measurement. How ignorant!” ~ 2 Corinthians 10:12
Some of you may know the famous quote by Theodore Roosevelt:
“Comparison is the thief of joy”
Over the past 3 months I have stepped back from social media (especially from Facebook). It is not that I am not interested in how my friends are doing; it is mostly because of the comparison game. It is exhausting! Especially one group I belong to makes me feel like I am not good enough.
Many years ago, a few bloggers and I participated in a meme called “Thankful Thursday”. We met every Thursday to share what we are thankful for. Some of us kept up with the meme on Facebook, and it makes me smile to see people sharing publicly their thankful hearts.
As we are fast approaching the holiday season, let us look back on 2019 to count our blessings with a thankful heart. Life is not filled with rainbows and unicorns. However there are always things that we can be thankful for, no matter how big or small. God is watching over you and will give you the strength you need to move forward.
For the Lord your God is living among you.
He is a mighty savior.
He will take delight in you with gladness.
With his love, he will calm all your fears.
He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” ~ Zephaniah 3:17
Lord of Heaven and Earth. Thank You for Your unfailing love. Give us strength and peace so that we move forward. Help us not to ‘play’ the comparison game, but to be thankful for what You have given us. In the precious name of Jesus, Amen.

- Thankful
Iris, I always loved reading the Thankful Thursday posts. It put into perspective that no matter what our circumstances, we can choose thankfulness.
I,too, choose thankfulness. It helps every situation.
Amen!
I am so thankful that our Heavenly father never makes us feel as if we’re not good enough.
