Do Not Grow Weary
8 For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. 9 And let us not grow weary of doing good, for in due season we will reap, if we do not give up. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to everyone, and especially to those who are of the household of faith. ~ Galatians 6:8-10 (ESV)
I have to admit; I do not like Black Friday. I have been doing my shopping for clothes and gifts online for the most part, for the past 10 years. I don’t like crowds, especially people seem more rude these days.
This past weekend I needed a good pair of walking shoes for the weekends. Surprisingly, most local stores still had their Black Friday sales going on. I spotted the perfect pair of walking shoes on a website from a department store. To my surprise, I hopped in the car to check them out. When I arrived, the store was busy, but I went straight to the shoe department. Finding the shoes quickly, trying them on, I was happy they were what I was looking for.
At the register, I was ready to pay the discounted, advertised price for the shoes. For some reason, only 10% were taken off at the register. I mentioned to the cashier that the discount should have been 40%. Well, needless to say, she gave me an attitude by saying the register is always right. I kindly mentioned that the price on the shelf said something different. We walked over to the shelf; she was not happy that the sign said 40% off.
In this busy season people seem more flustered and annoyed. However, Paul reminds us in Galatians to not grow weary of doing good. No matter how people treat us, let His light shine through you.
15 Nor do people light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven. ~ Matthew 5:15-17 (ESV)
Iris, I do all of my Christmas shopping online. I have noticed over the years, in the busy stores, that joy is not in the air. I’m glad you got your shoes though that you were wanting.
