Do Over
When my boys were young, we liked to have some basketball challenges. They liked to play one on one, but I liked to challenge them in a good ole game of PIG. They always thought they were hot stuff until they came against “Mom” in this friendly game. (BTW: Mom usually won)
In the game of PIG, if the person ahead of you made their shot, then you would have to make the same exact shot or else take a letter. The first person to miss 3x and spell out the word PIG was out of the game. Of course, when it was my turn, I would always try to make a shot that I knew the one after me probably would miss. Doing granny shots was my favorite, the boys had a hard time making those.
Often times when they would miss their shot and come close to being out of the game, they would shout…”Do over!” Of course, a “do over” would mean that they get a second chance.
Wouldn’t it be amazing in life if we could take a few “do overs”? When you make a mistake at work, or lose your temper at someone, or when you forget someones birthday? We all make mistakes in our daily life, but what about the really, really big things in life like divorce, or death, or bankruptcy, or extramarital affairs, or cheating on our taxes. Wouldn’t it be something if we could be granted a “do over” in times such as this?
A “do over” simply stated is being given another chance.
Sometimes we just need to have another chance. God made sure that we each had such a chance, because of the blood shed on the cross on Calvary, each of us has a “do over” option. But what we do with that “do over” is entirely up to us. It is imperative for our well being that we don’t miss out on our second chance.
What have you done with your second chance?
Psalm 30:1-5 (NLT)I will exalt you, Lord, for you rescued me. You refused to let my enemies triumph over me. O Lord my God, I cried to you for help and you restored my health. You brought me up from the grave O Lord. You kept me from falling into the pit of death. Sing to the Lord, all you godly ones! Praise his holy name. For his anger lasts only a moment, but his favor lasts a lifetime! Weeping may last through the night, but joy comes with the morning.
I just love the fact that this passage is lettingĀ me know that tomorrow is a new day. So even though things may seem hopeless and sad tonight, in the morning the joy of the Lord will be present. No matter how bad things appear, a new day is coming.
A new day for me came when I accepted Christ as my Savior. I can’t think of a better “do over”, because He loved me even before I knew Him, I was able to get a second chance. My sins were washed as white as snow and forgiveness gave me a new outlook at life.
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, so that whosoever believes on Him shall have eternal life.”
Have you accepted your “do over” yet? If not, it is as simple as Accepting Christ as your Savior. Believe that He died for your sins and rose again from the grave. Confess with your mouth that you are a sinner and you need forgiveness.
Today could be your day of starting over. A new beginning. Your “do over!”

Ha – my anti-spam word today is “forgiven”…so perfect for your post. You know, Christ dying in my place is something that still amazes me; I know that I should not take it for granted that He did. I am thankful for Him giving me a second chance.
