Do you Trust Him?

“To you, O Lord, I call;
my rock, be not deaf to me,
lest, if you be silent to me,
I become like those who go down to the pit.
Hear the voice of my pleas for mercy,
when I cry to you for help,
when I lift up my hands
toward your most holy sanctuary.”
~ Psalm 28:1-2 (ESV)

How do you define trust? The dictionary defines trust as: ‘a : assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something b : one in which confidence is placed’…

This past summer has been a little on the rough side. Don’t get me wrong – I am blessed beyond measure. We all encounter little bumps in the road of life – some bumps are just a little bigger.

The heat this past summer did not only take a toll on my body, but also on our pocketbook. I always budget in a little more (okay, a lot more) money for our August/September electric bill. I know it is going to be high since we have a 22-year-old A/C unit on top of the roof.

Well, this year we had a lot of other unexpected expenses; new tires for my car and new breaks. I am still not sure if I really needed the new breaks since the car had only 24,000 miles on it. At the beginning of July I started praying that the Lord would see us financially through the summer.

I got a little weak in my knees when we opened up our electric bill. My mind was racing. Okay, what can I do to make sure that all bills are paid and we still have a little money left for our vacation? I didn’t want to use high-interest credit cards during our time off.

To be honest with you, I was tempted to get a Powerball ticket when the jackpot reached $300 million couple of weeks ago. As I was ready to pull a $1 out of my wallet to get a ticket, a conversation with a friend came to mind: “Do you trust Him to get you through financially if you play the lottery?” Yikes. This sentence stopped me right in my tracks. I apologized to the Lord that I even had the thought of not trusting Him that He would see us through.

This past weekend He answered my prayer. I am still a little speechless, to say the least. I received a blessing from a friend. I still have to pinch myself. All I could say was “Thank you”. Thank you Lord and thank you my dear friend for such an incredible gift. You have a huge heart.

“Blessed be the Lord!
For he has heard the voice of my pleas for mercy.
The Lord is my strength and my shield;
in him my heart trusts, and I am helped;
my heart exults,
and with my song I give thanks to him.”
~ Psalm 28:6-7 (ESV)

Lord of Heaven and Earth. I am deeply sorry that I have ever doubted You. Your always hear our cries. You answer our prayers in Your time. Help us to put our trust in You, in You alone. Thank you Lord for our provision. In the precious name of Jesus ~ Amen.

Last night I read a beautiful testimony of God’s provision of a different kind. Please visit Kim at So Loved to read her adoption story. I know it will bless you. Would you also say a prayer of thanks in behalf of one of our devotional writers? Terri and Scott finally received word that they will be able to welcome home little Ella Claire in November.

Be blessed today and as always…

    Trust is somehow a difficult lesson to learn. As I read this Iris, I was reminded of the times the Lord has provided for us in miraculous ways. He is worthy of our trust.

    It’s hard to trust sometimes when the bills are due and it seems as if the paycheck can’t cover them. However, thank you for a great reminder that God provides sometimes in totally unexpected ways.
