Facing Giants

“This day the Lord will deliver you into my hand, and I will strike you down and cut off your head. And I will give the dead bodies of the host of the Philistines this day to the birds of the air and to the wild beasts of the earth, that all the earth may know that there is a God in Israel, and that all this assembly may know that the Lord saves not with sword and spear. For the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give you into our hand.” ~ 1 Samuel 17:46-47 (ESV ~ emphasis mine)

Besides my Bible, I am reading Max Lucado’s book “Facing Your Giants“. Max is looking at the life of David. Wonderfully written and witty as all of his books. In the first chapter Max Lucado talks about how David went into the battle against Goliath…

We all have our Goliath to fight. I know that I had to face in this past few months more giants that I would have liked. But then again, it also helped me grow. I realized that I am truly nothing without the help of my Lord.

As I have mentioned many times before, I am being trained to do a different job. It is not easy at my age. There is already so much in my brain that I don’t think that anything else can fit. I guess I have to purge some of the old stuff to have room for the new things that I need to know in order to do my job.

I feared that I could not keep up with the requirements. But over the course of the last 4 weeks, things have changed…I am facing my giants ‘head-on’. I do not need to go into battle on my own. I have a mighty Warrior by my side who will help me to sling the rocks against the giant of fear, the giant of worthlessness.

Before I even get ready in the morning I meet with the Lord to get the strength for the day that is ahead of me. The Psalms have been a wonderful comfort to me–in them I can see the struggles God’s people faced way-back-when–especially David. He had fear, but he kept his eyes fixed on the one Who saves…

“I sought the Lord, and he answered me and delivered me from all my fears. Those who look to him are radiant, and their faces shall never be ashamed. This poor man cried, and the Lord heard him and saved him out of all his troubles. The angel of the Lord encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them.” ~ Psalm 34:4-7 (ESV)

Lord of Heaven and Earth. Thank You for going into battle with me every day. I know that I am nothing without You; I could not face my giants without Your sling. You are the living God who will not leave His people. You are our Deliverer, our Comforter and Redeemer. Lord, help us to keep our eyes fixed on You. In the precious name of Jesus ~ Amen.

Blessings on your day and as always…

Thank you, Iris, for this wonderful message which I need very much today. It encourage me that it is not myself who fight , but Him, to fight for me, and will always be the winner finally. Thank the Lord, without him, I am nothing, but with him, I can overcome everything in my life.
May my eyes always on him, not on other things. Please keep my heart not to wave in water. In jesus name, I pray. Amen.

Iris, it’s such a blessing to know that God is on our side, and that we’re not on the battle field without Him.

Iris—this has blessed my soul! It is almost 5:00 here…the work day is nearly complete…battles with the enemy have continued throughout the day…but the Lord has been my “battle fighter”! I love the passage you used in Psalm 34–I have leaned on that scripture more times than I can count! Thank you for the great reminder of where our strength is! In the Lord’s hands!
    God bless you!!!

I didn’t realize you were being retrained for a new position. That IS daunting and challenging. I’m glad the Psalms have been a comfort to you. Hugs, e-Mom
