Don’t Give Up on Prayer
Prayer is powerful. Never give up on prayer. I’ve heard many anxious parents and grandparents talk about loved ones who aren’t living for the Lord. Most of the children were raised going to church every Sunday. They heard all about Jesus and their need for salvation. Some of them may have walked an aisle and prayed a prayer. Some were baptized. But at this time, they were living in rebellion and doing their own thing.
At my church on Sunday we had 10 adults baptized. Each one had a story to share of how they came to finally surrender their hearts and lives to the Lord. Many had to walk a hard journey to get to the end of themselves.
One married man shared how his grandmother had been the one who always lived the Christian life. He had gone to college, got married and had a son. However, he and his wife never went to church or concerned themselves with things of God. His grandmother was dying and this young man spent time at her bedside. As he watched her life slipping away, he remembered the faith in Jesus she shared with him. She had never stopped praying for her grandson. This man stood with my pastor sharing his story as he was about to be baptized. His wife was next in line. The couple began attending our church after his grandmother’s death. They began to teach their own child to love Jesus. The grandmother’s prayer was answered even though she didn’t live to see it.
It wasn’t until my own grandmother’s funeral that I was convicted of my need to start going to church. She also was a strong Christian woman who never gave up on prayer. She witnessed my rebellion but loved me anyway. And she continued to pray and …trust God. My life changed dramatically when the Lord finally got a hold of my heart. He began to change me from the inside out. My grandmother’s prayers were answered after her death.
So who are you praying for? Maybe you haven’t yet seen the answer to your prayers. But don’t give up on prayer.

Thank you for this. Last week, I found out that my son, a college student, has done something that I never, ever thought we would have to deal with. He was raised going to church, bible study, etc. and I know that he knows the truth about the Lord, but for whatever reason, he has made some decisions that don’t reflect that. Thank you for the reminder to keep praying – even when I don’t see answers to my prayers.
Kim, keep on praying and never give up. I can share story after story of answers to prayer.

I have two sons who have made poor choices. I have been praying for the Lord to touch their hearts and turn them back to Him. It is one of the hardest places I have walked through. I do know that God has a plan for their lives, and He may have to bring them through hard times. It is just so hard to watch. Thank you for this post. I have been praying and will keep on praying.
Poor choices do have consequences but how fortunate to have a mother who loves the Lord and prays for them. My grandmother did that for me. I’m so grateful. So keep on praying and don’t give up Jocelyn.
Thank you Debbie for everything you post but especially this. Sometimes it’s tiring praying for the same thing and I think sometimes I feel that the Lord must get tired of hearing it – but I keep on for those that need a closer walk with Jesus or just a walk! You are a blessing to many.
I’ve found that as I continue to pray for those I love, He works on my heart too. So keep on praying Sharon.
