If God Had a Pinterest Board
“The people who walked in darkness have seen a great light. For those who lived in a land of deep shadows–light! Sunbursts of light!” Isaiah 9:2 (The Message)
The Christmas season is often depicted with bright lights and shiny packages tied together with beautiful bows. Many of us strive to have that picture-perfect house all decked out like the idyllic pictures in our Holiday Pinterest Boards so we can appear to have it all together. But let’s be honest, all this relentless commercialized “happiness” is nothing but smoke and mirrors. The first part of Isaiah 9:2 gives us a completely different picture. In reality, the Christmas story begins with mankind, we the people who walk in darkness and deep shadows, colliding with the great light and having our darkness pierced.
If God were to create a Pinterest Board called “The Truth About Christmas”, it would be filled with pins of Scripture telling us in great detail that Christmas is much deeper than the commercialized happiness we’ve attempted to manufacture. Jesus didn’t come to cheer us up, He came into the dark shadowlands we call home as the Light of the world. The Light came into this dark world to untangle us from the hopelessness and despair of our brokenness and set us free.
Let’s take a look at some of God’s pins on His Pinterest Board.
- Isaiah 9:2 refers to Jesus as “a great light” amidst those in darkness – spiritual darkness. And we also see the triumph and victory of Light over darkness.
- Zechariah, the father of John the Baptist, also anticipated the coming of the Savior. In his great song of praise, he prophesied that Jesus would “Give light to those who sit in darkness and the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace” (Luke 1:79).
- In Luke 2:32 we see a man by the name of Simeon who pointed to the Light. On their way to the temple to dedicate the infant Jesus, Simeon took the baby to bless Him. It was then that God revealed to Simeon the true identity of the Child. He rejoiced that God had sent “a light to bring revelation to the Gentiles, and the glory of your people Israel.”
- Christmas is about the Light! In God’s Word and in the Christmas carols we sing we see the Light. The third verse of “Silent Night” says: “Son of God, love’s pure light, Radiant beams from Thy holy face, With the dawn of redeeming grace.”
- And the last verse of “Hark! The Herald Angels Sing” invites us to ”Hail the heaven-born Prince of Peace! Hail the Son of righteousness! Light and life to all He brings, Risen with healing in His wings.”
Light has come into the world and we don’t EVER need to walk in darkness again! Let’s pin that reminder to our hearts and look at it when we are afraid or in need of overcoming the darkness in life. “Light and life He brings, risen with HEALING in His wings.” AMEN!
PRAYER:
Gracious Heavenly Father, Oh how we praise you for bringing Light to this dark world. Not just any light, but PURE Light from the Holy Son of God. His birth was the dawning of the light that brought us redeeming grace. Jesus, we praise You, the mighty Prince of Peace! The Son of righteousness! Spirit, we praise You for shining light upon us to reveal our sin and to lead us in righteousness. It is to You dear Lord we sing our praises to this Christmas season. Thank You for Your written Word, that we may soak in its rays. In Jesus Name we pray, Amen.
- What is Your Focus this Christmas?
- More Precious than Words

What a cleverful way to express this. Love how you expressed God’s Pinterest board! We steadily look to other Pinterest boards on “how to” do things but the key to life is right there in front of us in God’s Word…His Board of life! ??
