He is the Everlasting God

27Why do you say, O Jacob,
and speak, O Israel,
“My way is hidden from the LORD,
and my right is disregarded by my God”?
28Have you not known? Have you not heard?
The LORD is the everlasting God,
the Creator of the ends of the earth.
He does not faint or grow weary;
his understanding is unsearchable.
29He gives power to the faint,
and to him who has no might he increases strength.
30Even youths shall faint and be weary,
and young men shall fall exhausted;
31but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength;
they shall mount up with wings like eagles;
they shall run and not be weary;
they shall walk and not faint. Isaiah 40:27-31 ESV

I am working my way through Part 2 of a Precept Upon Precept study of Isaiah. As I listened to Kay Arthur’s podcast, she asked a series of important questions…. What is your view of Creationism? What is your view of the accounts of Genesis? Do you believe in an actual account of what has taken place in the book of beginnings or are you more inclined to believe evolution or some other scientific explanation of the beginning? Kay Arthur went on to make a statement that basically said the strength of our faith depends on what we believe about God and our view of creation.

As I pondered the meaning of that statement, I began to understand what she was saying. The faith that we have in God is shaped by how we view creation. Is our faith in a god that had no control over the beginning? Or is our faith growing in a God that is the creator of the ends of the earth? If you’re in doubt, review verse 28 above – what does God assert about himself? It says He is the Everlasting God. Throughout Isaiah, God is taking ALL the credit for the creation of the entire world. He is the all powerful, all consuming, ever present God. He does not become weary or tired.

As we look at our existence, our circumstances, our trials or tribulations – where do we see God in the midst of them? Do we truly see Him as the creator who chose His people before the foundation of the world as Isaiah 41 describes? Or do we view Him as distant, unconcerned or unwilling to be our help? It is so easy for the enemy to plant doubts in our mind and for us to play upon those. My family found that my husband will be laid off from his job the end of June. Doubts and questions filled my mind as my husband told me the news. What about our pay? How are we going to live? What about insurance? I guess this means we aren’t buying a new camper right now? If I dwell on those questions, I can literally feel myself delving into a panic. My heart will race and my stomach will churn. Then I am reminded of this verse in Isaiah that says those who wait on the Lord will gain new strength.

If My God, who is the Everlasting God and who created the entire world, can call forth generations from the beginning surely He can help us through this situation. Yes, I view every account in Genesis as truth. This is my God. If He can handle the entire universe, I have faith that He will not fail our family during this trial. My prayer is that God will ultimately be glorified through the ordeal, that I don’t give way to a weak flesh and how we show our faith in God will be a testimony to others.

If the belief in creationism is at the core at our faith, is it any wonder it is under such incredible attack? After all, if the enemy can cause us to doubt creation, he can cause us to stumble in our faith and doubt God’s ability to help us. In Chapter 41 of Isaiah, it tells of the nations (coastlands) coming together to build “gods” to help them out. They attempt to make them not totter. I saw an incredible picture of our world today. Look at the nations all working endlessly to save our economy. As Kay pointed out, the USA has a love affair with the “god” of greed. We will do anything to keep this country’s economy going strong so we can buy more goods, buy fancier houses or more expensive cars. World leaders meet to discuss solutions. Yet God reminds us in Isaiah 41:10, “Do not fear I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God.”

He is the everlasting God. Whatever we face, He is so much greater. I challenge you to examine your belief today in creation. Where do you stand? If there is any doubt, go to the Word and read for yourself all you can about who God is. He has promised not to fail us. Build your faith upon that…and don’t let the devil cast doubt in your hearts. Remember the words of Isaiah 41:4b…

I, the Lord, am the first, and with the last. I am He.

Our everlasting Father in Heaven, thank you for being the God of all creation. What an awesome and powerful God you are! Lord, I pray for those who struggle with their belief in creation, those who are challenged by others on creation and those who simply do not believe. Lord, I pray you open their eyes to the truth of your word. Help us to be defenders of your truths and trust in You everyday. In Jesus name, Amen.

    Great teaching and so true. Many people say they believe in God but when you talked to them about creation they have many different theories. It is a reflection of our faith. If we believe God created the earth and everything in it in six days than we can believe that He can handle anything life throws our way. What a great perspective.

    Renee, it goes beyond my comprehension how anybody can look around at the beauty of creation and then say they don’t believe in God! Standing on a mountain top or looking at the colors change in the fall still takes my breath away as I reflect on the Hand that created all of it. -blessings.

    God really will take care of you and your family. When my husband got laid off unexpectedly in 2001 after 9/11 we were not sure how we would make it. I thought that we would be thrown out of our house within a month because of not being able to pay the mortgage. We lived without a job for 4 years with no income at all. We had 6 children at the time my husband lost his job. We had twins in 2004. My husband finally got another job in 2006, and we’ve had 2 babies since then. Now we have 10 kids. And God has taken care of them and us all this time.

    This post addresses the foundations of our faith. That is what the Lord has been speaking to me about- Foundations. We must have a firm foundation on the Word of God or we will fall during these troubled times.

    Thank you for this post.

    Love,
