He Knows Our Name
One of the most embarrassing moments has to be when you go to introduce someone and you forget their name. Have you done this or is it just me?
Not only have I forgotten, but I have even called someone by the wrong name. While I may need to be reminded of who you are, I’m so thankful that God never forgets. God never addresses us as “Hey you” or asks us “What is your name?”
We are God’s family. While an aging parent may get confused from time to time, seldom will you hear anyone introduce their brother or sister as “what’s-his/her-name”. That is because they know you, not just your name, but they know who you are because they have a relationship with you.
The picture I have of God personally knowing me is like that of a loved one waiting for the arrival of someone special at the airport. I remember several years ago, my husband and I waited at the gate at the Memphis International airport for our son’s arrival from being overseas for a year. We searched each face as the flight unboarded, it seemed like forever before we saw the face we were anticipating! Waving and calling his name, “Jeremy! Jeremy!” – finally our eyes met and we were reunited.
The apostle Paul tells us that much like how we knew instantly who our son was in that crowded airport, God also knows His children…
“God’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: ‘The Lord knows those who are His'” (2 Timothy 2:19)
It is overwhelming but yet so comforting to know that among all of the faces in this world that God knows each of us by name. His love for us is so personal and intimate that He takes time to call us by our name. Even when we don’t take time to get to know Him, He waits at the gate for us with great anticipation, waving and calling our name as He says, “Welcome Home, My child. Welcome home (insert your name!)”.
“Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are Mine.” (Isaiah 43:1b)

Love those homecomings!
It is such a comfort to know that God knows me by name. I am His.
