I am NOT a Princess…

“I am NOT a princess…

But I AM a child of the King.”

We see it a lot. “Princess” written on pink, in silver glitter. We see it on t-shirts, baby bibs, written across the seat of sweatpants. Many of us fall prey to the thought and many of our daughters see themselves as somehow “princess-like”.

Mine did. Then she went to a young women’s retreat and came home with a shirt that said, “I am not princess…but I am a daughter of the King.”

When God called Jeremiah, He told him:

“Before I formed you in the womb I knew you,
and before you were born I consecrated you;
I appointed you a prophet to the nations.”

Jeremiah’s answer? “Ah, Lord GOD! Behold, I do not know how to speak, for I am only a youth.”

I don’t know about everybody else, but I always seem to have an excuse. The thing is…all the excuses center on ME. I’m not educated enough, well-spoken enough, organized enough…Why would God want to use me?

The Bible teaches us amazing things about the people that God uses!

The Bible is full of promises and statements telling us WHO we are in Christ.

Read the Jeremiah verse again. God told Jeremiah

  1. I made you
  2. I chose you
  3. I prepared you

Before we are even born, God has prepared the things that He wants us to do!

Our hostess, Iris, uses the passages Ephesians 2:8-10. Many of us have grown up being able to rattle off verses 8 and 9. And then there’s verse 10.

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

We, believers, are the workmanship of God! He made us!

This is not of ourselves, I am NOT a princess!

But I AM a child of the King!

Prepared for good works, chosen in Him before the foundation of the earth was laid.

I am a CHILD of the King!

We are adopted as his sons(children) through Jesus Christ!

I am a child of the KING!

God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords…

has created me, adopted me, prepared me for good works. This is amazing to me; that He can take me…and use me. That I am not a princess…

It’s not about who I am, it’s about what Christ has done…

It’s not about what I’ve done, it’s about who Christ is.

Hi Ellen. I’m a regular reader of Iris’ (she’s such a blessing!). I’ve been wrapped up with “life” lately, so not as much time to explore the blogosphere. Because of my affections for her, I’ve been wanting to spend some time here at LWG…so, I’m allowing myself two posts :).

These were delightful thoughts…but…I have to tell ya, I DO see myself as a princess :). Not, an indulged, pampered, “it’s all about me” princess, but yes, as a daughter of the King! This scripture from 1 Peter 2:9–“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” is beautiful. It tells us of one more dimension we are in Christ. I. Am. Royalty! And it’s ALL about my Father, and who I am because of Him in me. The imagery is beautiful, and although I totally hear what you’re saying (especially as our culture as polluted that thought), I’m humbled…awed…and amazed that there’s royal blood flowing in my veins.

Thank you sooooo much for this reminder. My blog title is A Child of God~maybe I should change it to Child of the KING. Beautifully done and again thanks!

So that’s great but what do you think about the shirts that say ” Yes, I am a princess, my father is the king of kings”?

I think it depends on your perspective 😉 There’s a lot to both directions. Would I rather my daughter see herself as a princess, or a bondservant to Christ, purchased by blood?

    (the answer: both)
