I Can’t See Out the Window!
I can’t take it any more. Spatters of water cover my kitchen window. I also see something green and gooey smeared on the lower left corner near the frame. I can’t even guess what that might be. Yuck! The fresh tomatoes I peeled over the sink left polka dots covering the bottom half of the glass. It is likely I have something from every food group residing on the glass and smudging up my view.
The window needs cleaning and now. I pull out the trusty Windex, cure for all things (Big Fat Greek Wedding). Spray and wipe, wipe and spray. Wow, behold the bird feeder. I can see it again. The tiny yellow finches are busily pecking for seed and squawking up a storm over who will eat first.
This story repeats itself about once a week as my kitchen window is directly above the sink. I have observed some fantastic things through this portal, birds of incredible beauty, cats, of course, hunting the birds, several rats sneaking the seed the birds dropped, people outside, who don’t know I am watching and once, an angel.
My kitchen window is something I look into every time I am at the sink, which is often. Actually, the kitchen widow is something I look through. It’s designed to frame something beautiful or interesting. I don’t actually admire the window itself, I am delighted by what it reveals. It is transparent.
Looking through the window I begin to ponder several questions. Am I transparent? Should I be? What does it mean to be transparent? The Holy Spirit teaches me a lot in the Kitchen.
I found scripture after scripture where God’s people turn attention away from themselves and toward God. The prophets illuminate God. Paul and the Disciples point to Christ. Jesus is the reflection of the Father.
Oh, I want my heart to be a window. I desire to be transparent. When someone happens on my little widow I want others to see my Lord. It is my Lord, who weekly daily get’s out the Windex and scrubs me clean. While he works, He shines a little more light inside and asks me to reflect His love on those who pass by.
Philippians 3:8 (New International Version)
What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things.
Lord, This week teach us a little more about how to become transparent. Help us to turn away from ourselves and turn toward You. In Jesus name, Amen. And Lord, thanks for the Windex. I love you.

- Glorious Joy?
Thank you for this precious one, it was beautiful.
Amen, I love this. Transparency is important to me I want people to know …what they see (or read) is what they get =) Blessings.
I love this post! I can so relate to your illustration about your kitchen window since I’ve just changed my glasses and can see everything so much more clearly. Thank you for a beautiful post.
i’m into transparancy. it’s scary, but sometimes makes life so much better. why walk around in hiding, wearing a mask, putting on an act. who has time for that?
“Thanks for the Windex!” ROFL Ah, that made me laugh out loud.
Great post! I was thinking of transparency just this morning.
Smiling,
Terri
More of Him and less of me that is my heart’s desire, Lynn. I think we do need to be transparent to others you might have the same struggle – or even the ones who do not know Him yet…Life is not a cake-walk, but it sure is much sweeter with Him…
Thank you for sharing your heart’s desire….
Lynn, what a meaningful information you tell us. Not me, but Jesus. I pray the Living water overflow my life and to glory the Lord.
