I Say: Forget It!
Last week I told you about my manna jar. I want to remember the encounters with God this year. I plan to remember through the mementos I place inside.
This week I want to forget.
Philippians 3:13-14 (New International Version)
…. But one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.
Consider Paul in the city, Iconium:
Acts 14:19-20 (New International Version)
Then some Jews came from Antioch and Iconium and won the crowd over. They stoned Paul and dragged him outside the city, thinking he was dead.
But after the disciples had gathered around him, (NOW GET THIS) he got up and went back into the city. The next day he and Barnabas left for Derbe.
Paul takes a lickin’ but keeps on kickin’. The man is stoned for crying out loud. He gets up and moves on to the next town. Forgetting the past looking forward to the future. Perhaps a bit wiser for the wear.
Do you suppose God wants the same of us?
I choose to forget last year’s difficulties, challenges, failures, and disappointments. I will not forget the lessons learned from trials. God does his best work in my character during these periods in my life. However, I will not dwell on them. I will let God take my failures and make new beginnings and greater successes.
A new opportunity begins today!
O Lord our God, Because of Your great love we are not consumed, for Your compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. Thank you, Amen

- What if no one reads this?
Yes, I think our Lord does want us to get back up when we were knocked down…Actually – He usually picks me up, dusts me off and will send me my way a little stronger.
Thank you, Lynn for the reminder to not laying in the dust, when we are knocked down…because nothing can seperate us from Him. 🙂
Blessings on your day and always…
Very timely topic! This past week has been a knocked-down-sprawling-in-the-dust kind of week. But I chose to take the hand-up that God gives and keep on going. It’s not always the easiest path, but the alternatives are worse!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Dwelling on them is the difficult part, but I’m learning to see how these lessons have shaped the person I am today.
How wonderful. I think I tend to look back on my failures too much and with God’s grace I want to look to what HE has for me. Thank you.
