Importance of The Scriptures
I came across this verse recently. There is so much in these two short verses as I’ve been thinking about it.
“All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” 2 Timothy 3:16, 17
A. Scripture is God-breathed. Another version says “inspired by God.” So many today will argue about what the Bible says. To me it is comforting to know these words I read in the Bible were not made up by some human. Humans mess up. God does not. Humans wrote the words, but they were given by God to be written. We can trust what it says and need to always remember it IS truth.
B. Scripture is useful.
The Word isn’t just a book of random stories and thoughts. Look at the specific ways that the word is useful. We can use the Word for “teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness.” Some days you may read a verse that teaches you something new about who God is or how you are to live as a Christ follower. Other times you may find correction for your wrong attitude or unloving behavior. The Bible is very useful to us on a daily basis, and if we use it, we can learn and grow from it.
C. Scripture equips us.
The Bible equips us so that we can live strong Christian lives. You would not be wise to speak in front of a class without any thought or planning into what you were going to say, if you needed a handout, the materials the students would need, etc. In the same way, without the Bible we are not going to be equipped to live our Christian lives. The Bible helps us be successful.
Have you had a time where a Scripture taught or corrected you? How have you been equipped by using the Bible in your daily life?
- A Sister’s Love
- Friend of the World?
God’s Word never returns to Him void. Yes, His Word inspires me, corrects me, reminds me, strengthens me, encourages me and equips me. But most of all, It teaches me about a Holy Sovereign God who loves me. Thank you for sharing this today.
