Leaping for Joy
“And when Elizabeth heard the greeting of Mary, the baby leaped in her womb. And Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit, and she exclaimed with a loud cry, “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb! And why is this granted to me that the mother of my Lord should come to me? For behold, when the sound of your greeting came to my ears, the baby in my womb leaped for joy. And blessed is she who believed that there would be a fulfillment of what was spoken to her from the Lord.”” ~ Luke 1:41-45 (ESV)
As we are preparing for Christmas is seems like we are getting less joyous, certainly are not leaping for joy–we are too tired. We are planning Christmas parties, attending church services during the week, enjoying Christmas programs of our children or even take the time to get tickets for a ballet (oh – I so love the Nutcracker)…
I have noticed that people around me stressing out. Even the people during rush-hour are less patient (I didn’t think that there would be an even higher level of impatience *sigh*). Not sure why this happens every year during this wonderful time of Christmas. Have you noticed it too? Or is it only hectic around me?
When I heard today the above passage on the radio, I knew I had to share it with you all. Even though John wasn’t born yet, he leaped for joy when he felt the presence of the Lord. When was the last time you leaped for joy just being in His presence and savor every moment with Him? Does your mind sometimes wander like mine while reading the Bible? All the things you want to get done before you truly can celebrate Christmas? You checking all the lists, making mental shopping lists…you know all the important things.
Today, the Lord reminded me through Scripture that it is not about the parties, the church services or ballets that makes this time of year special. It is the little babe in the straw that made it special. Because of the little babe we can find true joy in life. Although it does not mean that life will always be easier — we still will struggle here and there. But the babe gave us hope – a hope that does not disappoint us. A hope that brings true joy.
Next time your mind starts racing about all the your Christmas preparation, let the Holy Spirit take over. If it means to do a little jiggy in the kitchen while you prepare the next party-platter – go for it…I know He will smile watching you.
Lord of Heaven and Earth. We sometimes tend to forget why we celebrate Christmas. Help us to keep our hearts and minds focused on the true reason for the season. When we start to stress, help us to reconnect with You. We want to leap for joy just thinking about the greatest gift ever. In the precious name of Jesus we pray – Amen…
Blessings on your day and as always…

Precious words dear Iris.
Good post to read first thing this AM! SOoo sooo many more need to read this.
Have a blessed day. =)
Funny but this was kind of my prayer this season.
I wanted to get excited about the reality of what the birth of Jesus really meant.
That jump in your stomach when you remember something you are really excited about. That is what I want.
I guess that is what Elisabeth and John experienced.
I have found standing in like, closing my eyes and praising the Lord, helps me have more patience myself with slow lines and rude people. It especially keeps me mindful of why we celebrate Christmas in the first place. Try it, you’ll love it!
I have a red tamborine ……… I think I will do a little jig in my kitchen some time today………. and let me add……. I think I will hear Him singing…………….
The LORD thy God in the midst of thee [is] mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy; he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing. Zephaniah 3 :17
Leaping for Joy because of Jesus – that’s what it is all about!
I so needed this today.
what a great prayer. I’ll make that mine this month!
Thanks Iris!
Amy
Checking in with you my friend. Trusting all is well with you (although busy!)
I guess babies kicked in the womb way back in Jesus’ time. I never really thought about that!
Hugs, e-Moom @ Chrysalis
Lol, that’s e-Mom @ Chrysalis. Typing too fast. (Reminds me of that children’s story, “Goodnight Moon!” :~D
Fabulous! Rejoicing together. Giving praises to God… Christmas is just dishwater ready to be thrown out without the Savior – the Reason for the Season!
Merry Christ-mas!
Next time your mind starts racing about all the your Christmas preparation, let the Holy Spirit take over. Oh, Thank you Iris… Thank you.
Iris, Thanks you so much for this wonderful message, leaping for joy for the little babe..he gives us hope when we struggle on earth..I get encouraagement for your words, thanks.
Merry Christmas, dear Iris! Thank you for the precious post.
So True! I think at this time of year, more than any other, we need to cherish our quiet time. And take a moment to ask that God direct our steps, this day. Maybe it isn’t nessecary for us to do all that we think we must. We don’t have to be Super Women. We just have to reflect the love of Jesus in our hearts. Our light can shine without being perfect at every little thing. Just give it to Him and ask for His peace.
