Let Your Light Shine

Let your light shine.  It’s amazing how a single candle can dispel the darkness when lit.

I love candlelight services on Christmas Eve.  In our church, we start at one end.  A single candle is lit and the person turns to the one sitting next to them and lights their candle.  This continues until all of the candles are shining brightly.  It’s quite a sight to see.  The darkness disappears.

What would happen if each one of us let our light shine brightly?  I think of the children’s song I learned many years ago in Sunday School.

I remember when I came to the part about hiding it under a bushel, I would yell NO so loudly.

If each one of us would let the light of Christ shine brightly in our lives, it would make such an impact on our world.

Matthew 5:16 NIV says:

“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

So how do we let this light shine?

  • I believe the key lies in submitting each day to our Heavenly Father.
  • Invite Him to sit on the throne of your heart.
  • Confess any sin in your life.
  • Read His Word daily.
  • Spend time in His presence.
  • Pray about everything.
  • Praise and thank Him always.
  • Gather with others to worship.

As you yield your life to Him, He will work in you and through you to impact others.  Your light will be shining brightly in a dark world.

    This reminds me of the candlelight devo we had as entering freshmen at ACU. It was just amazing to watch the amphitheater fill with light as each candle was lit.

    My Mom has told me “let your light shine” all of my life, before school we’d pray together and she’d tell me. I love the verse from Matthew.
