Love Letters

A few summers ago when I was cleaning out our basement, I found a box of old letters and keepsakes. The box didn’t look familiar. When we had moved, the moving company simply packed our basement boxes and we just unloaded them in the basement of our new home. So, my curiosity was peaked!

I opened the box and when I began to read the letters, I soon realized that they were love letters my husband had written to me while we were just sweethearts living apart. He was in college, and I was still at home in high school.

These letters were so sweet. They were filled with promises of what are lives would be like together as one and how much he loved me. They were romantic, lovely, and endearing. But, because they had been written so long ago, I had no memory of ever reading them! I am sure at the time, I read and reread them. I probably could have recited them by heart. But, 20 years later, I had forgotten the sweet words Brian had written to me.

Oh, how I want to encourage you to read God’s love letters every day! His love letter, the Bible, is filled with promises and what life is like when you live as one, and it tells how much He loves you. He promises He will never leave us. He promises that He has blessed us in the Heavenly realms. He promises that He will fill us with the peace that passes all understanding. He promises that He will forgive us and take away our shame. He promises that He will give us the desires of our heart.

Don’t ever let time slip by so that you forget the sweet words He has written to you, like I did with Brian! I encourage you to read His sweet words everyday.

Finding your lost box of love letters reminds me of when the Israelites found the scrolls after returning from exile. They were awed by God’s Word and rejoiced over hearing it again. I want to have that attitude every day – appreciation for His love letter to me. Thanks Tracy!

I love this word. I instantly thought of Nehemiah 8:5-6.

” Ezra opened the book. All the people could see him because he was standing above them; and as he opened it, the people all stood up. Ezra praised the LORD, the great God; and all the people lifted their hands and responded, “Amen! Amen!” Then they bowed down and worshiped the LORD with their faces to the ground.”

God’s people were so thirsty for His word, so hungry for Him that before Ezra EVER SAID ONE WORD!!! The people stood, lifted their hands, bowed down and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground as they responded Amen

Oh that we would be the people of God that hungered and thirsted for His word in this way.

    Thanks Tracy for sharing.
