Murky Waters

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.

(2 Timothy 3:16-17 ESV)

Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

(John 17:17 ESV)

In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

(Ephesians 1:13-14 ESV)

Recently, we returned from a vacation in the Florida Keys. The highlight of the trip was sure to be a snorkel excursion to Looe Key Reef from Bahia Honda State Park. Months of prepping – including buying snorkel gear and many days practicing in our backyard pool – culminated on this one morning as we charged towards the reef.

While the reef was beautiful and tropical fish were plentiful, the experience was a slight bit of disappointment. The water was murky, thanks to Tropical Storm Debby. What was expected to be crystal clear snorkeling was clouded with a greenish hue. The waves were rough, rising two to three feet, bouncing us around causing sever sea sickness to my husband. We went expecting one thing and ended up experiencing something much different.

The whole trip brought to mind several books that are floating around women’s circles. They are thought to be true Christian theology written to encourage and strengthen those who read them in their own walks with Christ. However, when examined more closely, these books are murky; laced with mystical new age and unbiblical doctrine.

Charles Spurgeon once said,

“Discernment is not a matter of simply telling the difference between what is right and wrong; rather, it is the difference between right and almost right.”

Ladies, lets strive to be discerning; seeing past the “murky waters.” God has given each and every one of us something so special and so amazing that nothing any human writer can put to paper can compare to. If you want to hear the voice of God, unmistakably, pick up His word and read it. It has exactly what you need to hear today, so don’t neglect time spent in it. Study of the Scriptures will strengthen your walk with God and give you the knowledge to build discernment. Best of all, there are no murky waters in God’s word. It is 100% truth!

What a special gift we have from God. His written, inspired, Holy and revealed word. Nothing compares.

Amen to that, Dana. We do need to proof everything we ready toward God’s Holy Word. Thank you for the reminder to stay in His Word.
