Preparing for the Sacrifice
“Then came the day of Unleavened Bread, on which the Passover lamb had to be sacrificed. So Jesus sent Peter and John, saying, “Go and prepare the Passover for us, that we may eat it.” They said to him, “Where will you have us prepare it?” (Luke 22:7-9 ESV)
Holy Week started this past Sunday with Palm Sunday. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey. Jesus had one more week to live and then walk the path what was in all reality was destined for us.
Have you ever thought how He felt knowing that all would be over in five days. That He would be nailed to the cross, and our sins with it. He knew what was coming, but He walked the path anyway. How amazing is that?
But not only did Jesus walk the path of redemption, He also left us a reminder of Him by instituting the Lord’s Supper. Luke writes:
“And he took bread, and when he had given thanks, he broke it and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which is given for you. Do this in remembrance of me.” And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup that is poured out for you is the new covenant in my blood.” (Luke 22:19-20 ESV)
Jesus loved us so much that He poured out His blood on the cross so that we could be reconciled to God. This is unconditional love and amazing grace in one.
Although Jesus died on the cross, He defeated death! The devil could not hold Him, because God made sure what Jesus rose again on the third day. This is a hope that all can hang on to. Our bodies may die, but because what God accomplished through Jesus on the cross, we also will rise from the dead.
“Lord of mercy and grace. Thank You for Your incredible love for us. Thank You for sending Jesus to be the sacrificial lamb on our behalf. We are trusting in Your mercy until life everlasting. In Jesus’ precious name. – Amen.”
Blessings on your Holy Week – See you at the empty tomb!
