Remember Past Victories

Remember past victories!

I remember these words from a sermon my brother preached over ten years ago. His message was about going through difficult times. He focused on David and how he handled his difficult times. One of his examples was when David was going to fight Goliath.

37 Moreover David said, “The Lord, who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” 1 Samuel 17:37 (NKJV)

David remembered his past victories and it gave him confidence that he would defeat Goliath. He knew that the same God who was with him when he faced the lion and the bear would be with him when he faced Goliath.

Remember past victories!

It’s so easy to focus on everything you’re faced with and every prayer that God has not yet answered. When you focus on these things life can seem overwhelming and depressing. However, if you take a moment and think, you’ll find that there are many past victories you can list that will build your faith.

Remember past victories!

Sometimes we get so accustomed to the people and things in our lives that we forget that they were once unanswered prayers on our prayer list. We forget to mention them among our victories. Nevertheless, if we would remember our past victories, answered prayers and numerous blessings it will remind us that we can always have faith in God.

So true, Bernadine; we often forget that God has always been by our side. Sometimes we just see the challenges right before us and don’t lift our head to the heavens.
