Remembering the Cross

Last week for our family lesson we talked about the cross. I’d read an idea online to save your real Christmas tree in December and then use it at Easter to make a cross. I remembered the idea last week, and we did just that. My son liked cutting the branches off a few months ago so only the main trunk was left which they sawed and nailed together.

As Easter approached I had been thinking a lot about the cross. This may have been instigated by a comment I heard a few weeks ago while in the grocery store. I was turning onto a new aisle and heard a lady say “oh look at the chocolate bunnies, that’s the best part of Easter.”

I didn’t see the person and don’t know who she is, but I wonder if she knows of the cross or if Easter is truly just about bunnies to her. How many others are there like her? How many don’t realize what happened on the cross?

In Colossians 2:13–15 we read this about the cross:

When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your flesh, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross.

I have been thinking of the cross and how we need to be reminded daily of Christ’s sacrifice. We need to always remember, not just on Easter, all He gave so freely for us. Because of the cross, I have hope of eternal life. My sins were nailed to the cross and for this I’m so thankful.

Easter may be over for another year, but we need to remember each day all day long that Jesus paid the price for our sins on the cross.

The cross we made is sitting on our porch as a reminder. Let it be a reminder to you today.

Thank you Lord for your sacrifice. Help me to daily remember what you have given us.

Have a day of blessings!

What a great idea, Bethany. And it is so sad that many only see the chocolate bunny as the highlight of Easter. No other religion allows the sugar coating of their most sacred of holidays like Christianity. No other religion’s holidays are a threat to Satan.

Great thoughts, Bethany! It is sas that most don’t know the true meaning behind this time of the year. It is so important that we teach our kids the true meaning.
