What Season of your Life are you in?
What season of life are you currently in? We all come from various backgrounds and times in our lives.
Maybe you are:
- Newly married and excited about the future with your husband
- A mom with several children to raise
- Retired after working many years in your career
- A grandma who is enjoying this season of spoiling the little ones
I’ve found that each season holds its own challenges. I worked as a nurse for many years. There were many days when I was so tired physically but also emotionally. I loved this career and worked at it for 25 years. I met so many wonderful people who I still count as good friends.
There were times when I wished I didn’t have to work. There were so many things I wanted to do but seemed to never have enough time to accomplish. I had to accept this time and do the best I could.
Eventually, I was able to retire. This was a new season in my life. I experienced so many things in life I’d only dreamed of in the past. I was so grateful to travel, spend time at the beach, volunteer by teaching little children in Bible Study Fellowship and the Home Bound Ministry of my church. I loved to be able to spend time with my family who live on the opposite coast of the US from me.
About twelve years later, I find myself back in the work force …again. A new season of my life and a different career.
I get to work with preschool children aged 3-4 years old. This wasn’t a season I planned for at all. However, I am embracing it and find that in many ways I’m enjoying it. I cannot travel much or have time to volunteer like I enjoyed in the past. But I am working at it with determination and love for the precious children I get to spend my days with.
I’m reminded of Colossians 3:23 (NIV):
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.”
If each one of us would remember that I have the feeling we’d put our heart and soul into whatever season we are currently experiencing.
How about you? What season of life are your currently experiencing? Do you find yourself wishing for a different season?

Debbie, you always have a way to put the best foot forward. I am 32 years in the same carrier (different employers), and yes, I wish for a different season in my life. But as I transition to become my dream a reality, I work with all my heart in my current job. The passage from Colossians is always in the back of my mind to remind me, no matter what I do, I do it to His Glory.
I tend to be loyal to wherever I work too. And I do believe it’s good to keep that Colossians passage close to our heart no matter where we work even if it’s at home. 🙂
Enjoyed this.
Thanks for your faithfulness in reading our posts Denise!
What I was thinking as I read this was how fast the seasons go and looking back it doesn’t seem like 9 years ago Caleb was a newborn. It makes me want to appreciate time more when I realize how quickly it passes.
Bethany, I couldn’t believe the photo of Caleb on his ninth birthday. I saw it on Facebook. Wow and yes time goes by so fast. Cherish this season sweet friend.
Hi Debbie,
This post prompted an interesting thought for me~in retirement, I am still to work at whatever the Lord has for me with all my heart.
In addition, working with all of our hearts give us the purpose we need to have so that we do not lose heart.
Blessings,
Janis
Yes I ‘retired’ from nursing for ten years before launching off in a new career direction. However, those in between years were spent doing much volunteer work including teaching 3-5 year old children Bible study. So God prepared me in advance for what I’m doing now. I volunteered in that organization (Bible Study Fellowship) for seven years.
