Some Days It Is Hard
“Put on then, as God’s chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.” (Colossians 3:12-17 ESV)
Last week was a rough week for me. At work, things didn’t go as planned. People are sometimes rude with their responses. But I try to keep it as civil as I can. If I don’t agree with certain things that are being said, I walk away. Even though I feel a response that I received to a comment or question was improper, I don’t try to retaliate.
Even over the weekend, I noticed how rude people of become. As was trying to park my car the proper way, another car pulled through the wrong way. Why am I continue trying to be nice or do things the right way? I often wonder…
But then I am reminded that I am God’s chosen one. He wants me to die to self and put on humility instead. God is asking me to do the right thing, even if others don’t appreciate it or live by the same conduct and values as I am.
Trust me, some days it is really hard to follow the teachings of our Lord. Paul writes in the book of Colossians to forgive each other. I wonder if that is also true for people who are not following the Lord.
I believe that I should forgive all people, even if they do not believe in the saving grace of Jesus. In the end, I want to stand before God and here these words…
“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.” (Matthew 25:21 ESV)
“Lord of Heaven and Earth. You have never promised that this side of heaven life would be easy. However, You are always with us, especially on the hard days. Lord, give us strength, wisdom, and patience when things are not going as planned. We are trusting in Your mercy. In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.”
