Spending Quiet Time With God

And in an instant, it seems, the old year is gone, and a new year has begun. A new year to start new projects or continue old ones. To set new goals or work on making old ones become reality.

2018 started out rather quietly for me. I’ve simply been spending quiet time in the Word and reflecting on things I want to work on this year. As I sat with my Bible the past few days, I sometimes found it difficult to quiet my mind and block out distractions. I’d start reading and then find my mind wandering. I turned off my social media and the news and tried to simply concentrate on Him.

5 Let all that I am wait quietly before God,
for my hope is in him.
6 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress where I will not be shaken. Psalm 62:5 (NLT)

That is exactly what I want to do this year. I want to be more faithful with my quiet time. Spend more time reading His Word, praying and getting to know Him more intimately. I want to grow even stronger in my faith. This year I want more of Him.

I find that it’s easy to get distracted by what is going on at home, work or the world in general. These things can cause quiet time to not be as effective as it can be. So, this year I’m going to be repeating Philippians 4:8 like a mantra. I’m going to remind myself to; Fix your thoughts on what is true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.

Happy New Year to all! I hope it’s been a great one so far.

Seems like the enemy uses distraction to detour our focus in many ways. Sometimes I just have to shut everything off to get back in focus. Good Word and encouragement for 2018.

Yes, Bernadine! I was going to write my next post on something similar, being still. I decided on something different. I’m off to India today and wanted to set up my devotion to post while I’m gone.
Thanks for this very important reminder.

You are right; it is easy to get distracted by our surroundings. That is why I like to get up early and can spend some time in His Word.

    Happy New year, Bernadine.
