Storm Season
The great summer bake here in Florida has begun. The zinnias are faded and leggy; the spring produce has long dried up. July and August means wilting heat and brief thunderstorms with lightening intensity strong enough to zap a coffeemaker, laptop, phone or refrigerator. If thunderstorms don’t come at all, the heat bakes lawns and crops to toast. Summer also brings hurricane season and the troubling thought in the back of the mind that another one of the big ones could develop in a week’s time. We don’t dwell on it, but we keep water jugs filled and always check the battery supply. When the local media begins the outcry to prepare, I like to have my ducks in a row. Staying prepared is better than having to get ready in a panic.
God’s word has the greatest security against all seasons and storms of any variety. Proverbs 1:33 says, “Whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell securely and shall be quiet without fear of evil” (ASV). Our reliance on God and his wisdom brings comfort and confidence. The same passage in the Complete Jewish Bible says we are “at ease …untroubled by fear of misfortune”. I rely on God’s word for direction and comfort in the life storms that come. Nothing happens to us that He doesn’t know about. Serving God does not mean that we won’t have storms; it means we have God’s loving concern. Psalm 34:19 says,” Many hardships and perplexing circumstances confront the righteous, but the Lord rescues him from them all” (Amplified Bible).
Oh Lord, I trust you. I have been so blessed in the past by your protection. I pray for those who may be hanging on to a limb while they watch the flood water rise. Save them in your mercy. Make them aware of your tender presence. Strengthen them. I will praise you for the deliverance that isn’t finished yet. “Lord you are good and your mercies endure forever.”

It is good to know what God is with us through all the storms of life. Thank you for the reminder.
