The Gospel is for Everybody
I’ve heard a term used “Law-Gospel-Law”. What it means (at least to me) in a nutshell is the mind set that when we are yet in our sins, we are under the Law, we have not accepted the Gospel – it is the Law that convicts us.
Then we hear and accept the Gospel of Christ. Beyond that, we can choose two paths – we can continue in the Gospel or we can move to the second “Law” stage, with its list of rules, do this, don’t do that. With this “Law” we choose to live under, it is the Law we must follow – and that we must choose. Some denominations teach that if you don’t follow and obey this second “Law” you can lose your salvation.
We all need the Gospel.
- In the beginning – God created.
- Adam and Eve sinned and made us all sinners
- Christ died
- Those who trust in Christ live – and live eternally and abundantly.
Whether we have never known Christ or whether we have known Him since childhood, we need to be reminded that it is by grace we are saved, through faith. This is not of ourselves, it is a gift of God, so that none of us can boast about how good we are. It’s not of works, it’s not of “do this, don’t do that”. It’s of grace.
What is this “grace” that this blog is laced with?
Strong’s Bible dictionary says that “grace” (transliterated “charis”) is of the merciful kindness by which God, exerting his holy influence upon souls, turns them to Christ, keeps, strengthens, increases them in Christian faith, knowledge, affection, and kindles them to the exercise of the Christian virtues.
One of the “Solas” of the Protestant reformation is “Sola Gratia” – by grace alone. We, in our humanness and sin are able to bring nothing to the table of salvation. Everything is of God, by His grace, through faith.
This is the essence of the Gospel (Good News). It is not that we are good enough to be saved, because none of us are. It is that Christ is good enough to purchase us.
God created, we sin, Christ died, those who trust Him live.
The harder we work, the more we fail! It is Christ’s finished work on the cross by which we are saved.
Romans 1:17
For in the gospel a righteousness from God is revealed, a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith.”
- Sometimes we don’t see the big picture…
- So Worth It!
God bless you sweet one.
Amen to that, Ellen. How many times I fail I would never get to heaven on my own–even if I tried to follow the LAW.
