The One and Only…
“Surely he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows; yet we esteemed him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned—every one—to his own way; and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.”
~ Isaiah 53:4-6 (ESV)
We had a wonderful, lazy Sunday afternoon this past weekend, my Sweetheart and I. It was awesome to watch old movies with my love–without interruptions. We actually watch 3 movies. They were all from the 50’s–not too many good new movies are out there anyway. But I digress…
One of the movies was called “Ace in the Hole” with Kirk Douglas as the lead role. At first I didn’t like the movie too much. The main character was a journalist who was fired from several jobs at major newspapers. He had drinking issues, had affairs with married women…Not my kind of ‘good’ character. Since he was fired from newspapers in New York, Chicago and other big cities, he ended up at a very small newspaper in New Mexico. All he wanted this job to be a ‘spring-board’ to get back into the ‘big’ newspapers. So he was looking for a story…
A miner was trapped at a sacred Indian site digging for pots to be sold to tourists. Charles ‘Chuck’ Tatum (Kirk Douglas) ‘smelled’ a big story. This was the break he was waiting for…He wanted to ‘save’ the miner–the entire nation wanted to see if ‘Chuck’ would get the miner out in time…well, I am not going to tell you rest of the movie; you might want to watch it one day 😉 .
As I was thinking of a devotion to write, I though back to the movie. How many false saviors have people sought out. Many of us might have even tried a different religion. Some religion require works, others you just have to offer your money in order to get to heaven. Or you just have to ‘find’ inner peace in order to get to a place called Nirvana. We are all looking for something or for someone to save us from this life.
There is Someone who already took on the sins of this world to provide a way to heaven. He stretched out His arms to welcome us all home. He shed His very blood to pay the price for our redemption. We have to look no further, but to the cross. Oh, how I love Thee…
He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth; like a lamb that is led to the slaughter, and like a sheep that before its shearers is silent, so he opened not his mouth. By oppression and judgment he was taken away; and as for his generation, who considered that he was cut off out of the land of the living, stricken for the transgression of my people?
~ Isaiah 53:7-8 (ESV)
Lord of Heaven and Earth. Thank You for Your sacrifice for us all. Lord, You are the genuine Savior. Help us to keep our eyes focused on the cross. If we wander or waiver, guide us back with Your love. In the precious name of Jesus.
In His love,

Yes, Iris everyone is looking for something. I’m glad that I found the Lord many years ago and He is my go to whenever I need Him. I don’t believe I have seen that movie, we too, like to watch the older movies.
Yes, He is only a prayer away.
He is there when I celebrate and when I cry out in need. What a saviour!
Amen to that, Luwana.
