The Shining Star of Christmas
High up in the heavens on one dark, peaceful night,
A tiny star twinkled with its bright shining light.
Although this star was tiny, its light began to grow.
It filled up all the heavens with the glory of its glow.
The star shown down on Joseph as an angel from Heaven came.
The angel said Mary would have a Son and Jesus would be His name.
As the angel told Mary about the babe, the star did so brightly shine!
“This Jesus,” thought the Shining Star,
“is a light even brighter than mine!”
Then angels came from heaven and filled up all the sky!
They sang their perfect praises to the glorious God on High!
The angels told the shepherds to seek a manger bed.
“Look up in the sky and by a star you will be led.”
In far off eastern lands some Wise men looked up, oh, so high.
They asked, “What is that Shining Star we see up in the sky?”
Then they all recalled what was foretold about that star.
So they packed up precious presents and traveled from afar.
God gave them all a vision of the place that they should go.
The star continued shining bright so the path would clearly show.
Although they had no roads or maps, they all were safely led.
The star shone bright to guide them to the little baby’s bed.
The God of all glory came from heaven down to earth.
A manger in a stable was the place of His humble birth.
Though just a tiny baby, and not a mighty king,
That which shepherds and Wise men sought,
He was the very thing!
This child became the Savior sent for all the world to know.
His light is offered to our hearts because God loves us so.
This special gift of Christmas is ours if we receive.
And His bright light within us might lead others to believe.
If the star had not been faithful to share its guiding light,
The King of Kings and Lord of Lords might not have been found that night!
Now everyone can find Him, whether near or from afar.
If we will share our light, just as did that Shining Star!
You are the light of the world—like a city on a hilltop that cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a basket. Instead, a lamp is placed on a stand, where it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your good deeds shine out for all to see, so that everyone will praise your heavenly Father. Matthew 5:14-16 (NLT)
