There is always hope!
Recently, someone came to my office and told me that their situation they were in was hopeless.
Hopeless? It broke my heart to hear someone give up on hope. I know it is difficult to live in a world full of sin and still remain hopeful but Jesus never gives up on hope. Did He give up on you? Me either.
I think of the story of the Samaritan woman that Jesus met at the well. Do you know the story? It’s found in John 4. The woman appeared at a well just outside of the town where she lived. Jesus knew exactly who she was; how she had been living her life; He even knew she was currently living with a man who was not her husband.
Jesus had the opportunity to set this woman straight. He could have told her where she was headed if she didn’t change her ways, but instead, Jesus asked her for a favor…
“Give me a drink”, Jesus said.
The woman, as you can imagine, was surprised. After all, Jesus was Jewish and she was a Samaritan and back then, Jews did not have anything to do with Samaritans.
Wow. What a icebreaker, don’t you think? Rather than condemning her for her sin, or pointing out to her all of her mistakes, Jesus simply spoke to her about eternal life.
“Whoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst…the water that I shall give him will become in him a fountain of water springing up into everlasting life.” -John 4:14
If you think there is no hope for you, your situation or your lost family members; remember the woman at the well. If you want answers…think about how you are asking the questions.
PRAYER: Dear Lord, help me to remember that no matter what situation I find myself that there is always hope…hope in You. Help me to trust You for the answers. AMEN
